    Painting on a Latex Mask

But, you need to check if the acrylic paint can be mixed with latex. Latex tends to have averse reactions to a lot of substances. (Especially metal based pigments, but also a lot of other stuff) I would reccomend to use liquid latex and latex pigments. You can get them easily on the internet...

    First Try: Latex Shrunken Head

Today I did a bit more playing around with colour. I will definitely need some orange or yellow pogment to get a better skin tone. But I also did a think while working on my aquarium and came up with an idea for a more realistic colouring. Real skin is layered and translucent. So just pouring...

    First Try: Latex Shrunken Head

Now its slowly working myself towards the right colour. I am using specific Latex Pigments so I do not have some reactions in the materials down the line. (Latex can be pretty suceptible to averse reactions that lead to an early destruction of the part) I am not there yet, but getting closer.

    First Try: Latex Shrunken Head

So, did a test pour to see how it works and to clean up the mold a bit. For a fast and dirty test it turned out surprisingly good.

    First Try: Latex Shrunken Head

Thanks. :) And yes it is. Seemed to be a good way to go about it. The part is small enough, and overhangs are no big problem when casting a hollow latex part.

And the mold is done. Not a lot to say about it. Its a standart latex mask mould. Turned out well, the monster clay can be mostly removed through melting by heatgun. The rest was dissolved with a solvent.

Casting rigid foam in a plaster mold

There will be some, but cleanup is alwas a must. A release agent in itself is a substance that creats a surface that can easily sepereted. Some residue will always remain. Sealing the surface and using mold realease wax is the best I can recommend too. Sorry to say, but unless you are doing...

    First Try: Latex Shrunken Head

So, this is a Testrun for later Projects and a little fun for making a small Larp/Halloween craft project. I am doing a Latex Shrunken Head. My plan is to do a model, cast a plaster mould and pour it, to make multiple casts. First is the model made from Monster Clay.

"ANH" Tusken Raider Build (July, new Costume Pictures!)

Yoho. So, while the Cycler Rifle is technically finished, I am not completly happy and some parts will get a rework. But that will take time as Work in the Netherlands takes up most of my time and currently I also am in Luxenburg and away from my workshop. But! I finally have a few nice and...

A lot of little stuff but thats always what really starts to pull it together. The Scope First of all I did the scope today. Removed that clear piece of...

"ANH" Tusken Raider Build (July, new Costume Pictures!)

Right now building is going pretty slow. To much to do right now. As I start at a new job at monday and needed to do a lot of prep work and get a bit of a feeling for the shops own cnc programm. I also helped a friend in his forge and repaired his mig-welder. But i also got a few lessons on...

"ANH" Tusken Raider Build (July, new Costume Pictures!)

The Finish: Shellack Well, I may have gone a bit over board on the finish. But thats what I get for choosing to french polish it. I originally wanted to stop at a satin finish but got carried a away. So I only stopped when looking down to see myself looking back. I just never expected...

"ANH" Tusken Raider Build (July, new Costume Pictures!)

So. Last bit before the basic tasks that have to be done before the finish are done. First I made some placeholders for the “control panels”. (what I will call them as I will put dials on them) I used them to assure the correct placement of the screw holes so I will later not muck up the...
