You could always go with a carpet tile, if you look online you can find it for between $0.50&1.00 per sqft (at least the last time I looked) and it goes down with tape or glue.

If I remember correctly the Disneyland model was built buy someone from The RPF, but I don't recall who.

This is still on my list of future projects but I hope to see some one do a 2-3 foot model.

Looking good, sometimes it's more important to test new process during a build, and if that study results in something cool then it's a win. I'm currently working on a TFA DL-44 from an all metal BB gun, I plan to print some of the parts and then cast them in pewter. That's my new process to lern!
