Maleficent references: general all purpose thread :)

So, got to see an advance screening (last night) and yes very much want to make all of these ;) I think I have them all above: Velvet and Lace Ombre Crepe Gathered Sheer Dinner Gown Moors Battle There is a transitional costume that connects two.. actually three, but spoilers so I'm leaving it...

Maleficent references: general all purpose thread :)

Okay with the new film I have a bit of a bee about finding more information, so I'll be trying to back track some of these links and add some more. For the new film I am besotted by three. Only one of which is known in full length ;) I can make out 7 distinct costumes in the new film, there is...

Marie Antoinette (1938) "Rocket" gown-Cosplay or historic recreation?

Update is... no sewing for a while- probably a few months. First of the two carpal tunnel release surgeries done. Physio starts next week and stitches come out then so there might be a few weeks after that but I also see my surgeon in 6-8 weeks so might be back on the list to get my other hand...

Why make molds from 3d printing?

I have found printing in ABS to be my best of both worlds solution for costuming. Most resin winds up a health hazard as it's heavy and brittle. All the armour I have made has been from epoxy fibreglass to at least be safe and light, and chemically bonded from inner to even paint if I want...

Maleficent 2 - Mistress of Evil

I'm mainly using the new trailer to fix various angles of my horns (I original sculpted and cast them then I used photometry to create 3D file that I'm editing.) The new headpieces are pretty closely fitted which show all the curves and markings so much better now! But yeah definitely bird...

Marie Antoinette (1938) "Rocket" gown-Cosplay or historic recreation?

Thank you :) I'm half Dutch, for those not from here yes different :) Opa's side mostly from Nijmegen and Arnhem, Oma from all over :) And my research focus is in Nordrhein-Westfalen (so right next to Gelderland) which has lead to being obsessed with the embroidery books by Quentel et al...

Marie Antoinette (1938) "Rocket" gown-Cosplay or historic recreation?

Thank you :) The extra lace has been ordered, it's currently in a plane somewhere between New Zealand and the US. Also my friend cut my steel for me (the hoop steel not yet the corset as I need to measure it all properly. So this meant I was able to sew the tapes into the hoops to keep the...

Marie Antoinette (1938) "Rocket" gown-Cosplay or historic recreation?

Okay, I have the steel boning I need (15mm wide by 0.97mm thick) but... My hands literally come apart* trying to use the snips supplied so I am going to measure everything to match the plastic boning I used and get a friend to use bolt cutters to crush-cut and I'll be investing in an angle...

Marie Antoinette (1938) "Rocket" gown-Cosplay or historic recreation?

It's been a bit of a tough year, multiple reasons. But I'm working on this again. Got the stays sewn up, and I just need to get the boning in. I really want some of the good german plastic boning I have used in the past but can only find something called the same thing but it's not at all the...

Help: how to fill a boot seam?

Another person who can't see the photos :) But I wouldn't use superglue on anything flexible. You might, just might, have luck with roughing the surface lightly and using Shoe Goo or E6000 as both are flexible and work on leather and faux leather. Problem is both are transparent, though Shoe...

    Painting Urethane Rubber parts?

I've used this on a urethane coated fabric: https://bjbenterprises.com/index.php/sc-89-6-clear-flat-urethane-coating/ I mixed it with Pearlex pigments. I haven't used a specific surface cleaner though.

    Can you dye a wig?

I also recommend using acrylic ink to create lowlights- I recently cut down a wig that was very yellow blonde. I used a sponge brush and extra Iso Pro to tint the roots and fetaher to the ends. I still want to add some more to make it more obvious but it's a relatively simple process once you...

Latex/Silicon on Full Body Fabric Suit? Is it possible?

Yes. But both will degrade over time. Latex on foam (urethane foam such as is used in bedding) is pretty standard though old fashioned for film/theatre etc. It's free style so relies a lot on ability to disguise the technique. It's taken me a very long time to develop a good method and even...

Paper Mache and Resin - will it work?

Resin is not what gives fibreglass strength it is the "glass" aspect. The material the resin soaks into determines the weight and strength. Epoxy resin is really superior to any other resin, and it is a whole system. You can have strong chemical bonds within the fibreglass and to the paint and...

    Fabric Markers VS Fabric Paint?

Can you show us what you want? There are other options, depending on what you mean by "lines." Could be piping, could be trim laid down, but if you are meaning like "cell shading" then that's a different kettle of fish.
