Hello everyone. I recently decided to pursue a 501st approved TLJ Kylo Ren costume (the capeless, helmetless version seen through most of the movie). I've contacted several people about the quilted vest and such. There's no CLR but I think the vest has enough reference photos to be fine. The...
TRIP3, you're not pushing in at all! It's beneficial to everyone to see how other people have done it. Those cuffs look great!
Your method of cape attachment is very interesting. Did you ever have problems with the velcro accidentally catching the fabric and fraying it? The clip is a great...
I think velcro isn't a good idea too. If I'm not mistaken I read somewhere that the Thor cape in the movie attached via magnets.
Thanks for the tip!
My master plan: After buying your suit pattern and printing it I'd measure your "detail pieces" and model one of each from clay. From there...
Personally, I planned on either going Neodymium Magnets or Velcro. I don't know about attaching magnets to cloth so I'm thinking Velcro on the shoulders and on the cape. I think I could pleat the cloth on a strip of Velcro to give it some of the "robustness" the fabric seems to have where the...
That's extremely accurate! Even using all cloth it looks awesome! It looks like you perfectly matched the weight of the cape. Can I asked what material you used for the cuffs and such? They also seem to be correct thickness.
You're also built well which helps... Thanks for the great pic!
I'm...
UPDATE:
Ok, I think it'll take a while for Sonjou to get to my commission, so that'll give me enough time to think about the detail pieces. I bout cheap puff paint from Wal-Mart (I accidentally bought black:facepalm) and the tip was so big it was really hard to get the detail of the...
UPDATE:
Sonjou messaged me back! I've officially surrendered my dye-sub template and will wait for Sonjou's. He matched the colors a lot better. I'll still ask him if he can use my detail pattern.
If anyone wants to work with my base pattern I'll put it up.
In the next...
From your profile picture it also looks like you have pretty accurate cuff pieces! Can I ask what you made them out of?
Thanks! I hope you stay involved in the project! Any suggestions you have just throw them my way!
UPDATE:
I'm currently pondering the sizing of the urethane detail...
Update Time!
Thanks to Captain April I took a much closer look at this picture of the pattern:
This is about as close as I can possibly get:
Would you say this is accurate? If ANYONE thinks they can modify it to perfection and has Illustrator I'd be glad to upload the file!
It is 4 pieces, my screen shot did not include the back and arms. I thought it did look like chain mail and even considered making a conjoined pattern so it's one piece of urethane, but if you look closely the pieces are all separate...
Essentially you get a really hi res picture and take...
Excellent observation! I'll get on that! Thanks!
Thanks! I would LOVE to see pictures of yours!!! What all materials did you use (especially on the emblem)? Did you use the Dye-Sublimation method?
Re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **
Hello!
I'm Matt. I'm a photographer, film maker, and pre medicine student. I've always loved making movies and the costumes are always my favorite part. I've referenced this website so much, I had to join! My big project now is to...
Here's a quick update:
I sent Sonjou a message about the base pattern, can't wait for a response!
Also upon closer examination of the photos uploaded by Art Andrews of the suit from comic con, I revised my urethane detail pattern to be more accurate:
Does this look...
I noticed "The Amazing Spiderman" utilized this technique heavily on Garfield's costume. The "Replica Remedy" seems to universally be "Puff Paint." Do you think this could be done in puff paint? I looked closer at some Comic Con closeups and I think the pattern is rigid and not beveled like I...
