Suggestions/advice for bright lights behind visor.

Thanks for the detailed explanation! I really appreciate it. For the edge lit piece, the LEDs are mounted on the edges as the name implies and not directly facing the flat edge? And to prevent blinding myself I just blacken out any side that faces my eyes?

Suggestions/advice for bright lights behind visor.

If I go the LED way, what should I use to diffuse the light so that it doesn't look like a bunch of LEDs in my face?

Suggestions/advice for bright lights behind visor.

Hi, I'm improving a project I did a few years back and would like some help. I have a visor which is tinted a dark black. I'd like to have the eyes/mouth light up a bright green. I've been looking up a few ways to do it and narrowed it down to two possibilities. Either using EL tape or...

The PEPAKURA question thread - PLEASE READ RULES IN FIRST POST!

Re: Pepakura First Time, Tips Wanted! When I did my project I started with super glue, but then moved over to hot glue for tight areas that needed a quick bond. I regretted it, when it came time to put filler and then sand, when I sanded through the filler and reached the paper layer the glue...

spray paint ripping off with tape

Thanks for all the replies, I'll try them all. One person said to take off the tape as soon as the paint is on. Isn't that bad? I thought that the chemicals in the rattlecans softened the paint a bit, so wouldn't it weaken it if I try to take it off before it is dry? (I'm talking about...

spray paint ripping off with tape

Hi, This is the 3rd project I've done and the paint is giving me a lot of problems. I'm using a dark and light silver spray paint, and want to do a 2-tone job. I put a primer, then a coat of light silver, then mask an area, spray a coat of dark. When I take the paint off the tape peels it all...

    Removing clay with alcohol?

I'm currently building a retaining wall with chavant clay to make a silicone mold. I'm applying the clay over a piece that has already been painted and also has a layer of clear. When I take the clay off I'm left with a bit of a residue. What is the best way to clean that off? If I use...

Daft Punk Guy-Manuel Helmet Build - Excessive LEDs and 3D Printing

You said your friend gave you access to the 3d printer. Did he tell you how much it would have cost if you weren't acquainted? I've always been curious to how much it would cost to get a helmet 3d printed, I always got the "too much" answer.

A new video tutorial: Gelcoat and fiberglassing

Cool video. Any suggestions on how to do something that would be too narrow to get the brush in there? For example, a horn. I have a mask project coming up that has a few horns on it. I'd probably do them separately and glue them on after but I'd love to hear suggestions for a better way...

Galanoth Helmet and the things I've learned

Hi everyone, here is a project I've been working on for a while. It is a helmet of a character from Adventure Quest Worlds, one of the Artix Entertainment games. I started out with a pep file, and gradually built up the shape. I went this way because I wasn't confident enough of my ability to...

Need help with cutting something thick

Hi, I'm cutting out some holes in a helmet I rotocasted. I began with a cutting wheel on a dremel but some areas are too thick for it to go all the way through. Is there an alternative out there someone can suggest? Something like a jigsaw where I can insert the blade in but gentler because a...

Hi, I'm working on a project and I'm getting mixed results with a material, would like some advice if possible. I'm slush casting a helmet with smooth cast 321. While I'm working with it everything seems fine and goes everywhere smoothly but as soon as it begins to get milky little bubbles...

Safely packing something to be shipped?

Thanks for all the help! One last thing, a few people mentioned insurance. For sure I'm going to get insurance on it but I heard somewhere that artwork will not be insured? I think it was Volpin who said something like that about one of his helmets that was shipped and damaged but I might be...
