Hey all,
I was going through storage and came across some happy memories. Some of us have been in the lightsaber prop game for a while. I remember the arguments about MPP vs Heiland, T-track conjecture, and of course back when we surmised the Ben Kenobi must have had motorcycle parts on it. :D...
Came across this. I noticed the Obi-Wan prop’s blade length was shorter than normal in a lot of shots (especially in their first duel in this series). I understand it’s probably for more safety for the action and they’re more sturdy or something…but when they don’t animate it the rest of the way...
I like it. The Clone Wars ended only 10 years before. I think of it as the equivalent of Chechens or Afghanis carrying old Soviet-era AKs. You use what you can get. And maybe the droid blasters were somehow easier for droids to use? ☺️
There is some behind the scenes footage from The Mandalorian. Do we want to include discussion of the Luke lightsaber from that?
Also, there’s one BTS that doesn’t look like a ROTJ prop...is it a Graflex-looking one, or do my eyes trick me?
I figured here was as good a place as any to post these. I was going through old boxes and found these old technical journals. Each has centerfold “blueprints” of some props. These are from the mid-‘90s I believe.
Look at the Luke ROTJ. It seems they had the connecting bit from the clamp on...
Came to post a screenshot from this. They did a really nice job on the lightsaber flicker; Luke’s had a cool OT feel to it. The rest of the swords in the movie seemed too static to me. They’re supposed to flicker and undulate and all that.
Great green. Makes me sad we didn’t get to see older...
Or how about the blue-collar hero, whether he’s 25 or 50, with the late ‘60s/early ‘70s muscle car as his daily driver? And in perfect condition too. I suppose Tom Cruise wouldn’t look as cool driving something like a five-year-old Nissan Versa. :D
I’m not sure I agree with the idea that the sword blades have no weight. Everything about the fencing suggests they do. George Lucas and Mark Hamill said the original direction was that they were heavy: “Excalibur”-like per Mark. They also don’t cut through stuff with no resistance. In The...
I think if they pull a Rogue One but go even further from the main characters' storyline (the ring and all that) there could be some fun stories to see.
I only saw the 2001–2003 LOTR movies, though.
And I have to say, the fellow who posted a gif of Michael Shannon's Zod saying, "Heresy" was...
