After 8+ years, finally starting in on Budd's sword!

Had a chance on a beautiful spring day last weekend to sit outside for an hour or so and get the fittings on the tsuka. It's always surprising how chunky the Chinese-made tsuka are when I try to put Japanese-made fittings on them. Lots of wood needs to be removed to get them on. Just go...

After 8+ years, finally starting in on Budd's sword!

Polished up the fittings, and I’m thinking of sticking with this finish. Maybe some silver rub and buff, but I’m liking this look. cleaning that black paint off the fittings was no fun. Acetone didn’t work, paint remover didn’t work much, Mothers Mag and Aluminium polish worked the best.

After 8+ years, finally starting in on Budd's sword!

So, after a number of years of hunting down parts and FINALLY getting a set of the handle fittings (fuchi/kashira), I can finally start on Budd's sword from Kill Bill! It didn't get a lot of screen time, but I guess I needed to make all the Hanzo katana:) ProTip - if you watch closely in...

KILL BILL - Hattori Hanzo Blade - the bride's sword

Here's what I've got so far - I've been playing with a few different 3d modeling apps (mostly OnShape and Fusion360), but I don't know them well enough to really model a super-accurate version of the kojiri. This TinkerCAD model is pretty close on the general shape, though. I'll probably need...

KILL BILL - Hattori Hanzo Blade - the bride's sword

Nice job - really inventive work! That kojiri really is the hardest part. Most saya are too thick for the accurate kojiri to fit. It's always a problem (if the saya is not built from the ground up to fit that kojiri). I've been working on trying to come up with a 3d-printed kojiri myself...

    Conan closeups?

Those studs look like they could also be a kind of furniture tack/nail... there are many, many styles available in that school... http://mascofabrics.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/DadsCatalog_Nails.pdf And if all else fails, they could always be 3d printed and finished...

    Conan closeups?

They look like simple pyramidal / circular studs/rivets, which seem pretty common. Between these: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/33061987549.html and these...

1970s Tomorrow People 'Jaunt' Belt Buckle...

I've been wanting one of these since I was a widdle kid, and I figured since I have a 3D printer, I'll finally make it happen:) Did the design up in TinkerCad, epoxied on a buckle backing from "Rings and Things", and bingo-bango, there it is! Here's the link to the buckle back - really, it...
