If you know Catia then solidworks is a walk in the park. I wish I had Catia Pro, its a beast! In Catia i thought you could just offset your shape in GSD to give it a thickness?... i could be way wrong

Solidworks 2014 & 15 allows you to add thickness. Once you create a surface you can use the "thicken" command. I did a quick sample. You can now work on it like an extruded surface.

Pick up some super sculpey firm, its much nicer to work with in detail. And you can always add regular sculpey to it until it feels right. Dude that is definitely a decent standard.. I really like the raw rough finish, it goes with the theme... Make them all and I will buy them all:P
