Nicksdad That's a good question. I'll take a look at the thicknesses of the material on both tomorrow and maybe throw a caliper on them. I can tell you that the built dimensions for this Tricorder are taller and a little narrower (when closed) than the Roddenberry version.
That's a good idea, Sean! I can connect w/him on Facebook too as he's a regular poster on the Star Trek Prop Enthusiasts Group. I think I've got enough slides to cover my personal builds, but then I'm spent. It's on my to-do list to produce my own accurate versions at some point. It's just a...
Wow, thank you Nicksdad! Did I hear correctly that you made MkVII shells at one time? I've been wondering actually if this was one of yours. Any clue or way to tell?
Sorry for the big gap here - a very busy couple of weeks I've had. Before installing the electronics boards, I worked on the viewscreen for the Tricorder. I know a lot of folks have found really creative and inventive ways to install LCD screens with animated LCARS graphics and those are...
I'm sorry if I'm your cheerleader, but I really appreciate your sharing the process on this. The airbrushed windows look great. Did you also use the airbrush for the starfield/nebulas? What kind of razor pen are you using? Sounds like a useful tool.
Thank you! It was the only way to get them right for this particular body. I can't use the graphics that come with the Roddenberry kits because they're wrong in a few ways. Which is odd given the source!
I spent an ungodly long amount of time getting the fonts, colors, etc. correct. I went...
I took fewer and fewer progress photos as the project continued, so I apologize for that. But after painting I turned my attention to the graphics. The graphics that came with the Tricorder kit as I had it were completely unusable. They were the wrong material and WAY off in regard to typeface...
I'm offering for sale this recently completed Tricorder prop from Star Trek: The Next Generation. I built this piece to be as accurate as possible to the physical prop used on the set during production and on-screen. It is constructed of clear vacuum-formed plastic with reed-switch activated...
That's a great question, but unfortunately I don't know. The hinges were included with the kit, same for my Roddenberry kits. I do have an original production made set of vac-form pulls for a MkVII medical Tricorder and to build it I will need to find hinges as you're right -- they kind of make...
