    This may be a stupid suggestion, but why not just buy a 4th Doctor sonic, and replace the emiter head with the one from the 8th Doctor CO one, remove the stationary core that holds the emiter head, the spring and potentially the sound cartridge (if all you want is for it to telescope) then...
