WIP: Bandai 1/5000 Star Destroyer Standard but lighted

Looks terrific. Sadly mine, not so much ... yet.

    WIP: Bandai 1/5000 Star Destroyer

I've taken it apart a dozen times and reassembled it with the same results. I've hunted for sprue bumps I may have missed cutting flush on the diffusers and using tweezers to tuck the LED wires into places that would not affect them, and the results are the same. The gap is worse on the Port...

I cut the insert peg that goes into the bottom hull completely off. The top hull now just rests on top of where it would go as I intended to glue the top hull down to the bottom. But, the light leaks had me hold off of attempting that until I could figure out a way to engineer a fix.

    Bandai Super Star Destroyer

Got mine, but am gonna wait before I build it due to frustrations with the 1/5000 SD kit.

Here ya go: I also sheared off the bow peg under the top hull to alleviate the stress, which made the curve worse. The top hull bow peg is like 1 mm short of fitting perfectly into the bottom hole peg when the large 2 rear hull pegs are set and fitted. Even after shearing it off - the hull...

Well, I got the kit put together: But I am not happy. Major frustrations have occurred that I have not had to deal with in a Bandai kit before. The battery pack and LEDs - seems like they dumped this in from another model kit. The wires are too long and getting them wrapped, notched and...

    WIP: Bandai 1/5000 Star Destroyer

Build progress. After the panel line and detail wash, mixed a combo of Stynlrez primer white, mixed with some acrylic grey with some reducer and sprayed the entire kit on the sprue and also the hull. Dried to near the base color I was wanting to come close to the 8 foot ILM filming model. The...

    Bandai release schedule

I think retailers in general are taking several steps back from going hog wild on stocking up on Star Wars merch like they used to given the overstock they were stuck with after TLJ and Solo that ended up gathering dust on the pegs and shelves. In fact, next week is Triple Force Friday - and...

    Bandai release schedule

Repacks and limits on new merch for TROS is likely a wise position to take given the Hasbro inventories retailers were sitting on after TLJ and Solo. If memory recalls, someone recently explained what the Japanese market for Star Wars models is like IN Japan - and it is NOT encouraging...

Or you could spend hours custom carving your own styrene parts with a trusty X-acto blade and pretend it's therapy! The fact that one does not have to worry about applying missing details to a Bandai model is a testament to the value of their kits.

Amen and preach it brother! However, that said - money talks and well wishes walk. Not sure Bandai will want to pay the license fee for worldwide exclusive rights to market SW model kits, whereareas Revell and Hasbro hold a kind of toy dominance over the Lucasfilm marketing department.

Works for me. No hot spots. Sloppy. I do not have a precision applicator for the Elmers, so I just globbed it into the whole inside structure, making sure to push down and squeeze into where the window holes are to 'fill' and left it turned over so it would shrink and dry while filling the...

    WIP: Bandai 1/5000 Star Destroyer

While working on cutting masks for airbrushing hull plating - decided to try Omnius' idea of putting glue that dries clear into the holes from the rear of the superstructure, bridge tower and trench pieces and filling them with paint marker red to create lighting effects without the use of...

    Bandai release schedule

Mine has 4 LEDs with a light yellow/white glow and 6 with a blueish/white hue. Instructions indicate the 4 yellowish hue strands light up the front of the ship and the 6 bluish ones light up the engines, the bridge tower and the wedding cake area.

I think someone else also mentioned that as a solution to explore. I have not begun test fitting anything because I am painting the kit before assembly, but I already noticed on the upper hull piece that I am masking off hull plates for airbrushing - that the port side rear corner is bowed...
