    Fennec Helmet WIP

Thanks for the feedback - I have cropped, saved as .JPG, and reuploaded so load times should be a lot quicker moving forward.

It does seem to hinge open at least a bit, but I agree the fit is likely to be quite tight. I don't have a scan of my head yet, but a mannequin head model did look quite tight at the correct proportion. I will probably get family to help me out with some photos and just stitch together a rough...

    Fennec Helmet WIP

Worked on today while streaming on Twitch. I may still need to address practical hinges for this thing, but I'm happy that most of this is done. Will probably next address the little greeblies she's got on her costume, but I'm not at a point personally where I'm ready to draft out her...

Mandalorian (SPOILERS) - Thing of nightmares or cutest thing ever? Work in progress.

Started working out the hands and feet over the past couple of days. I mapped out the armature with wire and slight aluminium foil, covered with a thin layer of clay, just up to the first joints. They got baked, fingers got posed, then it was mainly an additive process with clay up until i got...

Mandalorian (SPOILERS) - Thing of nightmares or cutest thing ever? Work in progress.

A lot of time between this and the previous update. The ears got removed entirely and the head got baked at ~125C for about an hour. Then I baked the existing ears separately and reattached afterward, using CA glue, poly clay and a heat gun. I then made some sheets with a pasta maker and...

Mandalorian (SPOILERS) - Thing of nightmares or cutest thing ever? Work in progress.

Thanks! Yes, this and the shot of him lying asleep in his pod prompted repositioning of his ears a bit more central rather than far back. His ears have some depth to them so it makes sense to avoid some awkwardness with them sticking out the back if they sit more within his profile.

Mandalorian (SPOILERS) - Thing of nightmares or cutest thing ever? Work in progress.

Tonight's progress; just a couple of hours, but I'm trying to avoid overworking the clay surface because it gets soft so easily having been handled repeatedly over the past few days. Is everyone okay with me not using spoiler tags any more at this point? The thread just previews the first post...

After a 4-ish hour twitch stream, here's where I'm at:

Mandalorian (SPOILERS) - Thing of nightmares or cutest thing ever? Work in progress.

I guess what I'm saying is I'm working a bit more broadly for now and refining slowly. There are some creases on there right now that are a lot heavier than they ought to be, making the features look a bit too articulated. There are also some bumps that could also be smoothed down a bit too.

I agree. It's been a bit of a push and pull to get where I want it. I just don't want to put myself in a situation where I have to carve baked clay, because Sculpey can be rather brittle when handled in this manner. I'd prefer to fill in with gentle applications later than risk having to carve...

Mandalorian (SPOILERS) - Thing of nightmares or cutest thing ever? Work in progress.

A bit more detail on the face, added a chin. Tore out the ears and repositioned. I need to bake this soon before I do any more work on the ears, but it's hard not to just hold this head in both hands (its size and shape has earned it the moniker 'My Little Hamburger') and coo over the weird...

Mandalorian (SPOILERS) - Thing of nightmares or cutest thing ever? Work in progress.

I'm giving it some thought! Sculpting by hand isn't something I do often, but i think I might try integrating an underlying balljointed system - 3D printed, maybe. I've always meant to work on a ball-jointed doll and this sort of scale makes it a bit less intimidating. A silicone head would be...

Halliwax Thanks! Haha that's just the first thing that came to mind with the colour of the poly clay and the scale of the eyes. More progress under the cut.

Mandalorian (SPOILERS) - Thing of nightmares or cutest thing ever? Work in progress.

Things are coming along. The addition of a nose seems to help a lot (although it still needs a lot of work to make it more cute). I've also added more blocky detail in the brow that will be smoothed down further along the top of the head, and I've been paring down details around the eyes. The...

Mandalorian (SPOILERS) - Thing of nightmares or cutest thing ever? Work in progress.

Some time spent focusing on the eyes and bulking things up around the back. Still needs more bulk around the head behind the eyes, in the chin, working in the ears and the neck.
