Someone finally posted a carbonite model worth looking at

Ive been a member for a long time, always wondered why the HIC models were so poor that were out there. there is a new scan that seems to be more accurate than others. I havent printed it yet, will try over the weekend to do a mini version. Han Solo Accurate by leiaskywalker

Is anyone out there making a BB8 replica like this?

there is another set using the creative commons license out there. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/924humicim8id4h/AADfRzRzPc3YpAnb1JlOgjGpa?dl=0 a I agree James design is far better, but there is another option, and the other one has files broken down to sizes that most 3d printers can handle.

Is anyone out there making a BB8 replica like this?

Just curious. I experimented with a 50% size, looks like a pretty intriguing build. Seems a bit simpler than many other droid builds. As long as your 3d printer is large enough to print the parts.

Suggestion Should we have a 3d Printer forum here?

I might have to take a little issue here, since I bought my first 3d printer last year at the maker faire as a kit for 399$. I am now making a new one with a larger print volume and re-using the last ones electronics and parts to upgrade. You learn a lot about this technology in a short time...

Suggestion Should we have a 3d Printer forum here?

I do agree with this, because there is always a difference in replica props... 3d home printing is not quite "there" yet, but enough enthusiasts are out there waiting and using the current evolution of printers to make things they love. To them the items are "Good Enough" To others they are...

Suggestion Should we have a 3d Printer forum here?

Since 3d Printers are becoming popular with many hobbyists, should there be a special place for sharing prop printed designs? Or does this bleed into all of the existing forums. Just putting it out there for thought. Wes

cnc and 3d printer, perfect combination

Ive thought about it, but going to do 1 more big one and then maybe a 50% one, but have to design all of the body parts for 3d printing first.

cnc and 3d printer, perfect combination

I am using the printrbot lc, bought the kit from the MakerFaire for 399$, I think the price went up since then though. It was complete and just had to be assembled.

cnc and 3d printer, perfect combination

Its not out of reach, if you contact Frank Pirz, he can make you the complete parts that are the body of r2, the detail parts can be purchased on ebay or through r2builders . its not that difficult to acquire them, and if you choose plastic over metal it can fit into a tight budget.....

cnc and 3d printer, perfect combination

So I have set yet on another r2d2 build. My last R2 was donated to Make a wish, and time to make a new one... I am doing this one completely from scratch, no bought parts, but I am cheating a little, CNC machine for the body and 3d printer for the detail parts... 2 dream machines for prop...

Saying Goodbye to my R2, but its for a good cause

Make a wish came and picked up R2 this morning. I am anxiously awaiting the pics of the unveiling to Zachary. Since I am not a licensed Make a Wish volunteer I could not be there for the event since, but I still feel satisfaction in the gift, and they promised me some pictures along with a...
