ALIENS: USCM M40 Grenades - screen accurate machined aluminum

It's disappointing that OP won't provide an update, month after month, despite repeated requests, and despite apparently being online and contactable. Doesn't everyone here know that this isn't how to run a run? Even if there are legitimate delays, "no news is good news" doesn't apply to the RPF...

ALIENS: USCM M40 Grenades - screen accurate machined aluminum

Yeah, "next weekend" was almost 2 months ago; an update would be appreciated.

Blade Runner 2049 Memory Spheres made of stuff I already had.

The crystal ball from the desk fountain? I’m pretty sure a google search for “crystal ball desk fountain” will offer you some options. (You might even be able to get it without the fountain.)

In the books he's copper, for what it's worth.

    SPATSCave man alive?

For what it's worth, I ordered some decals from SpatCave on etsy, on Jan 30. They arrived within about a week, no problems. However, that was a simple order of an in-stock flat envelope, with no need for email contact or on-demand prop building. So it may not prove much.

If you won the lottery, what props would you get.

Well if we’re talking real estate, how about building Jabba’s sail barge as a real “floating” land yacht, on location at the original Pit of Karcoon?

Aliens M40 grenades in wood on a homemade lathe

Yeah, well, I didn’t want to buy a lathe. Lathes are expensive. I’m cheap. But every so often I want to make something round. You know how it is. At some point I had to drill a hole in a brick wall. My regular power drill couldn’t do it, so I had to buy an impact driver. It has a regular drill...

Aliens M40 grenades in wood on a homemade lathe

A little side project: the box. MTM brand box with the branding painstakingly sanded off, from emery boards down through 600, 400, 1200, 2000, then Novus #3, #2, and #1. (It was frosty looking right down to the final Novus polish.) I particularly wanted to get rid of the "www" at the bottom...

Whoa. How is that moment so scary I never noticed the skulls in the shot?! Also why is she sleeping with skulls? Ew. Loving this thread.

Aliens M40 grenades in wood on a homemade lathe

I tried making one with a sculpted-in “cap”, with some miniatures paint I had handy. It looks awful. The matte paint and some slight asymmetry makes it look like lipstick. If I take more care with the turning and use a more appropriate paint, I hope I can get a better result, but it might...

    Damnation Alley Landmaster 1977

I’ve only been to the LA area a few times, but somehow I saw that thing by the side of the road almost every time. As I sci fi kid in the early 80s I recognized it instantly, was thrilled that it still existed at all, but didn’t understand why it just sat there in a tiny trash-strewn lot —for...

Aliens M40 grenades in wood on a homemade lathe

The version with a pushable button works so well, I figure I’ll want to make a few more at some point. Luckily I have a big box of pens waiting to be recycled. I raided it for springs, something I honestly should have done a long time ago. I’m a little surprised at how many different sizes of...

Aliens M40 grenades in wood on a homemade lathe

I realized that my second test piece was too long in just the right place for me to saw it open, drill it out, and make it into a clicking version the same size as my third, more accurate one. Pen spring. Bit of 3/8” dowel. Slice of bamboo drinking straw.

Aliens M40 grenades in wood on a homemade lathe

Slightly better turning tool, slightly better results. This one is pretty much the proper size and shape. I’ll have to make a few little adjustments, but it seems like my lathe can handle this job. Wood grain is going to be a perpetual challenge…I’ll probably make a few more and start...
