Hi all,
We have consulted with several other collectors of original ALIEN material and we stand behind the original description of the jacket as a production piece. Here are several relevant points:
There were two distinctly different styles of shoulder patches created for production. The...
The unusual shaped "broken" MPP shroud is one that has been notched out. I assume so they could access allen head bolts securinf the blade on either side.
Here is an analysis I assembled of the differences between the Bonhams auction costume and film-used/production-made costumes. I do not believe the auction description accurately reflects these differences.

This polaroid came from someone in the ILM model shop. It's the same lightsaber "prop" that Nathan Hamill was photographed with in the mid 80s. I assume the model shop made it up to give to him? Obviously not from the films.

Hi all,
Prop Store recently opened a new auction of original hand-drawn sketches from original Star Wars artist Nilo Rodis-Jamero. I'm sure many RPFers are familiar with Rodis-Jamero's work -- he was hired on ESB as the assistant VFX art director, and went on to be costume designer for ROJ, in...
Hi guys,
I've read through this and tried to digest as much as I can.
The diagram a few posts back showing how the emitter is held on via the rod is generally accurate. It's been some time since I disassembled the prop, but I'm pretty certain the nipple and the emitter are one single piece -...
The blades are definitely tapered. These would be from ROJ and maybe ESB - I doubt they're ANH blades. They are light weight. I believe they are hollow, and on the base of them there's an aluminum collar inside the blade shaft, and another aluminum collar outside of it. A set screw passes...
Chiming in - I don't think the "Kenner cardback" aka "Square shroud" aka "Barbican" saber was modified again after production of ROJ, for touring. It just went out on tour in the 90s. It was a Vader lightsaber and they pulled it out of a box and put it on tour, simple as that.
The "pipe stunt"...
"#41" is the design number, not anything to do with count or quantity. All Biker helmets say "#41" in them. There definitely were not 41 Biker helmets.

Yes, as Seth says above - they started the film with a motorized dueling saber for Vader and another for Luke. Vader's had the big square shroud on. At some point, they painted Luke's with a black emitter and let Vader use it for the duel.
After ANH, at some point the square shroud on the Vader...
Similar placement for button (on/off switch) on Luke motorized saber (seen here in an ESB rehearsal shot) and Vader Barbican saber (hole under grip.)

Mark doesn't have any lightsaber props today. Nathan tells a story of losing a lightsaber prop in a park when he was young. I don't know whether it was the non-film-used piece from the People magazine above, or something film-used that they had.

The angles aren't perfect here, but:

Middle - Barbican photo
Bottom - Vader severed hand saber photo
What other sabers exist in the OT with the very thick walled emitters?
