Yeah, sorry everyone for the long wait on these. Really the issue is matching up segments so it looks natural. When I get alter I'm really not sure on the size or color until I get them. Then when I turn each segment you don't really know how it will match until you have several done. I've went...
Sure. I'm only missing one piece on yours. And expecting a new shipment that is due to arrive on Monday according to tracking. I'm trying to make them all so the amber flows right down the cane. That is, so it looks like a natural fit. So far the people that have got them seem to think they are...
Yep, finally getting a couple out (thank god). And two more are about a little more than halfway done. I'm sending notices shipping soon. Thanks for every ones patience.
Thought I would give an update along with pics of how it's made.
Basically you start with a piece like this:
The get it to the size you want which is 2.5 inches.
It then goes on the lathe and this is a progress of the bottom piece of one:
I normally sand them down to 400 grit after that...
Yeah, there was one person who needed it asap. So that might jump. But im making three right now to get the best pieces to fit. So in reality once I get these three done they will ship at the same time. And the new antler I just got will probably have 4.
Got about two just about done and had to order more antler. The problem with these is antler is so different and what they send me might not be thick enough. But I'll be sending PM's around to pick your amber very soon.
Yeah, looks good for sure. That fossilized Dino vertebrae is why I made mine out of antler. To make it more like the original "story" of the piece and not an exact replica. But this new version is solid. Good work.
