Celebrity jerks?

You hear a lot about celebs who thank the fans for buying their stuff. I heard about Ron howard, Ronnie James Dio (rip), the guys from metallic (now that they're sober), Will Smith (who my cousin has met) are really cool. I heard MJF is really cool to meet to. I know from experience that Jasmine Guy from Dead Like Me and Broadway is really nice. My cousin is related to her by marriage and she's really cool.

I worked on Friday night lights off and on for a couple years and the cast was all very nice, especially Kyle Chandler.

I also worked on the pilot of the short lived My Generation show. The cast members were all really down to earth.

Met Maggie Grace once and she was super nice and chatty. She was asking questions about myself more than anything. Edward james olmos was also a very nice guy. Bruce McGill stopped by my day job yesterday. Another down to earth guy. I guess I can't say I've had a bad experience yet.

tony todd....really laid back....he likes hats...

malcolm macdowell...was cool, the woman i was with had a bowler hat for him to sign so he seemed to like that

brent spiner came off as an ass.

billy dee williams....super cool.

malik yoba...(new york undercover) and doug E. doug, both great guys, i played football with them between takes on one of the first movies i worked on...

mark harmon, I was working as an extra and he came over to almost every single one of us in between takes introducing himself, asking how we were doing....

george romero, hes like talking to your grandfather....but about zombie movies.

eli roth, being a fellow horror film geek we got along well, so i would say he was a cool guy.

****** tonk man, he seemed happy to just have people recognize him, and his wife was quite nice as well

well thats all i can think of for now

oh yeah, NSFW....aurora snow.....shes quite a sweetheart

I actually haven't met many celebrities. The latest was Dan Aykroyd - great guy! Very patient - you can tell he loves his fans. I thought maybe he'd sign only a couple items, but, he signed my Ghostbusters DVD, my The Arrow DVD, my SNL Twenty Years Commemorative book, and of course my bottle of Crystal Head Vodka. :cool

Back in 1994 at Universal Studios on the set of the short-lived Suzanne Somers Show, I met Suzanne, Dick Clarke and Chubby Checker. All great, but you got to remember, they were at work. Suzanne actually looked better than she did on Three's Company. Got to chat with her and Dick for a few moments. Chubby's a tall guy - of course he sang "The Twist" and everyone in the audience got up and danced - great fun. It was a cool experience seeing a taping of a show and all the set-up around it.

Ex Pittsburgh Penguin Jaromir Jagr at the Olympics in Vancouver. Just managed to get a quick photo with him. I was born here but my family roots are Czech so it was cool to chat with him in Czech for a bit.

In April, I met Jon Montgomery who won gold in Men's Skeleton at the Vancouver Olympics. Awesome guy. He made our country proud. I may not be able to go to Russia in 2014, but I will definitely be cheering him on in Sochi.

And a couple family friends that play in the NHL (brothers). One actually retired at the end of the 09/10 season, and captured the gold at the Olympics in Vancouver. :cool Both great guys.

So far I haven't met any celebrity jerks.:cool

no jerk story from me but way back, mid 90's at blackpool when the big B5 conventions were on, I was at the hotel towards the end of the day at the bar when stephen furst came over and ordered a beer.

Jelly that I am at this point, I just say "hello, have you enjoyed your day" because I'd seen him looking worn out in the autograph room and he said "fine, bit tired, why don't you join us" and he gestured over to a booth containing bill mumy and patricia tallman.

so I'm trying to act all cool and unfazed and stutter out a sure and ended up chatting with them about 40 minutes or so. they'd asked me how I found the con and we talked B5 for a bit. Of course at this point I had no idea about bill mumy being a child star, lost in space etc and asked him quite openly what else he'd done outside of b5 and there was an amused laugh from him and he told me some tales from lost in space.

I felt like a total ****** for not knowing but he was quite charming and liked the fact that I genuinely had no idea about his past stuff.

patricia tallman is a total gem. really nice lady. cos she's done stunt work as well as acting she had some cool stories to tell too.

That's nice to hear about Pat Tallman. There's a lot of not-so-positive stories about her; having enjoyed her character on the show it's always disappointing to hear stuff like that. Good to hear she's got a better side.

David Hayter: Nice guy. He had a huge line for autographs at a convention and they cut him short by about 300 people, but he walked out down the line and signed stuff and took pictures as quickly as he could.

Louise Page (costume designer for Tennant era Doctor Who): Not an actress, but I have to mention her because she was incredibly nice, answered all my questions and put up with my nerdiness. Altogether I think I spent about 2 hours talking to her at a con and she even asked for a picture with me to show Tennant my costume.

Brent Spiner: Came off as a little bit of an ass, but I think he's just awkward. I can relate to that. If I were in his position I'd probably just want to get out of the room without talking to anybody.

It's hard to figure out the Brent Spiner comments, because he's the "funny guy" of the cast.. those are usually the best ones to talk to.

Let me think about a few of the ones I ran into at Comic-Con a while back...

Jenette Goldstein, Mark Rolston, and Ricco Ross (Vasquez, Drake, and Frost from Aliens), were all signing autographs together. Jenette was a real sweetheart, always had a smile on her face. And she's TINY.. lol. Rolston was very laid back, down to earth. Ross was a little more picky about the autographs and the payment (something about the picture I had signed by all three of them, I can't remember the specifics), but we did chat for a minute.

Warwick Davis is a class act. A friend of mine was getting an autograph (I was standing off to the side for pictures), and they chatted for a minute. My friend had been nervous about getting a photo with him because of his size... do you stay standing up, ignoring the size difference? Do you automatically kneel down, accentuating it? She didn't want to offend him, of course. Well, he took all that away by walking around the table, and reaching up for her, motioning her to bend down next to him so he could put an arm around her shoulder. Big smiles all around!

The other one I got a kick out of was Ted Raimi. Again, my friend was getting the autograph while I got the pictures. While she was waiting in line, I found myself standing next to an older gentleman in a suit. We chatted for a minute, I don't really remember what about.. probably Ted and his many different roles. He mentioned that Ted is extremely forgetful about people he's met, and that if you pretend like you know him from somewhere, he'll assume that you do, and he'll treat you like an old friend. Before he walked off, the guy I was talking to introduced himself. Turns out it was John Schulian, co-creator of Xena! Shook my hand, wished me a great time at the convention, and went off to wherever.

I also saw Kenny Baker walking around, but he was walking with a purpose.. I distinctly remember he looked like he was heading to the bathroom, so I didn't bother him.. lol.

Someone mentioned Gates McFadden up above, and yes, she was very nice and down to earth. She was the main guest a convention I went to.. lord, a LONG time ago, I think the show was still on the air. She was bombarded by fans at the signing, so I didn't get any one on one time, but I do remember one thing she did during her stage appearance. While she was talking and answering questions, a little toddler boy wandered up toward the stage, he was maybe 2-3 years old. Right about the time he got to the stage, his mother realized where he was. But before she could do anything, Gates had reached down, picked him up, and kept talking! The kid was wearing one of those gigantic toy communicators of the time (which was damn near the size of his entire chest), and Gates joked that she wished they had communicators that big on the show. Apparently, one of the most common flubs the actors had was missing the communicator when they went to hit it. She struck me as very down to earth, very friendly, and also very professional. And did I mention beautiful? :)

My Dad and sister work for the airlines and have met most of the "A" list celebs for the past few decades. They say most are fairly nice. Dad commented Sly was much shorter than he expected. Sis says Woody harrelson is great.

A friend of mine works in the movies in hollywood and defends most celeb behavior. He also says most are just normal people trying to cope with fame. He did say Harrison Ford is a drunk and held up shooting on the last Indy movie 2 days out of 3 because he was too drunk to come out of his trailer.

I've met Beau Bridges and Bill Gates, both very nice in person.

As a child my sister sat next to Danny Kaye on a flight and he was a complete jerk to her.

It's funny, I've heard the exact opposite about Cruise, that he's one of those "holier than thou" celebrities that doesn't like mingling with the little people. Then again, that might be "old" Tom Cruise, and maybe he's a nicer guy post-crazy.

Perhaps :) We didn't talk about Scientology or anything like that.

Most of the celebs I've met have been through work. I've never been to a Con so maybe I get a different side of many of them.

I have no bad experiences, only good ones (thus far). Some other nice guys are Kevin Smith, Ricky Gervais, Wayne Gretzky, and Doug Gilmour. Gilmour was my hockey hero when I was a kid so I was incredibly relieved when he turned out to be a nice guy!

I really wish I had gotten to meet John Candy. I hear he was awesome with fans.

I had to pick up George Takei for an university lecture and he seemed friendly enough onthe trip from the airport. Got him settled in and we did some small talk. I went to the podium at the U and introduced him, did a very in depth bio on his career and he walked up to the podium and complimented me for about 30 seconds on how much I had brought up on his past acting career. After the lecture, he asked me on how I had researched his past he still talked about how much I had listed. He was a great guy to speak with, we went out to dinner and he was just a super guy to work with all in all.

JUST worked with Donald Trump on a short project this past month for work. Not much but I have to say he was extremely nice to me and honestly I was not expecting him to be so kind. So a thumbs up for Donald Trump as well.

brent spiner came off as an ass.

Brent Spiner: Came off as a little bit of an ass, but I think he's just awkward. I can relate to that. If I were in his position I'd probably just want to get out of the room without talking to anybody.

Can't tell that he's an ass - the contrary was the case - I showed him the LCARS touchscreen animation even when he had little time (he always touched the interface like a piano), he had to head to the next con panel and I heard from the con staff, that he was deeply impressed (made my day!).

It's hard to figure out the Brent Spiner comments, because he's the "funny guy" of the cast.. those are usually the best ones to talk to.

A witty humor!:)

MOST celebs are jerks - I only know a few - very few who are grounded and speak to people as if they are in the same race. I have so many stories - not really of conventions but the one convention story that sticks out was SAM J JONES - yep Mr. King of the Impossible himself.

A friend and myself were standing a few feet from his table trying to decide on if we wanted to get him to sign something - then we saw the prices for his stuff and we both said - "no way". 40bucks for a color - 30 for a b/w, small posters for 100bucks - yeah right. Anyway - Sam was rattling on and on with some couple and another guy stepped up to the table - you could tell something was wrong with this dude - and when he spoke it confirmed that he was most likely retarded (which to me - celebs should just GIVE them items or take pictures with them for free) but this guy stepped up and he had a five dollar bill in his hand - all crushed up - looked like he'd been holding it for weeks - he pointed at a Flash Gordon program on the table and said "I want that" Sam came back wtih "How much you got there partner?" -- The guy: "Five dollars" Sam looked pissed and goes off -"No! No! This is a rare flash gordon program. It costs 200 dollars" The retarded guy doesn't understand any of this and comes back with "I want to buy it for five dollars!" Sam frowns - totally unforgiving of the guy's obvious handicap "NO! NO! THIS IS A RARE THING - Y'KNOW WHAT FIVE DOLLARS GETS YOU HERE??? A HUG AND A HANDSHAKE!" The guy smiled and whispered a "Okay" So Saviour of the Universe hugs the guy for a second and ACTUALLY TAKES HIS MONEY!!!! He took the FIVE!!!! It made me SICK. But yes - I did laugh a little. Both me and my buddy now watch Flash Gordon wondering how much he's charging for his deeds through out the movie.

Speaking of Brent Spiner...I was told this story recently when I was in the line for meeting Dan Aykroyd. A guy in the line with me was dressed as a ghosbuster and had this amusing story from our most recent Comic Expo where Brent Spiner was a guest.

Apparently one of the bathrooms was designated as Brent Spiner's and the public was not to use it. This guy that was dressed as a Ghostbuster didn't realize this at the time and went in to use the urinal. As he was peeing he heard Brent Spiner say (from the bathroom's stall), "Don't cross the streams!"

:)

Sam J Jones, I remember a nude pic of him that Hustler had gotten a hold of back in the day...He had a small Pee Pee. Figures.

for the ones I have met in person , Christoper Lambert was a total A-hole. That was back when the highlander movies actually made money before the terrible series etc.

Then there was James O'Barr , another guy that was enjoying his 15 minutes of fame. He was set up around Clive Barker at a con many years ago and he thought he was at the same caliber i guess. Clive and Doug Bradley was both great too.

Another great one I remember was Frank Miller .I remember him sitting on top of his autograph table signing for everyone.

I've met several celebs, mostly working with Emerald City ComiCon as part of the security crew and as a handler.

The Good:
Gigi Edgly: A beautiful and sweet lady. She actually recognized me from a brief chat I'd had with her a couple years before.
Daniel Logan: Absolutely wonderful. He was friendly and warm and had a way of drawing people to him even when they didn't know who he was right away.
Jamie Bamber: I didn't get to talk to him very much, but my husband was on escort duty for him and, according to my hubby, Jamie was unfailingly gracious and warm.
The Defuser, Big Mama, and Ms. Limelight: They're quasi celebrities, perhaps, but they were nice. I still talk to the guy who plays the Defuser and he's a HELL of a nice guy. He's a genuine comic book nut and really believes in the ideals of what a superhero should be.
Aaron Douglas: Aaron is, without doubt, one of the nicest guys I've ever met. He genuinely loves the fans and enjoys talking to them. He's also very smart and does WICKED imitations. Everytime I talk to him, my ribs ache from laughing so hard!
Tahmoh Penniket: Again, a really nice guy. He's got a natural leadership to him and I think that he has potential to go far.
Michael Hogan: The ONLY thing Hogan has in common with Col. Tigh is that they both like their booze. Hogan is very sweet and reminds me a lot of my dad in a lot of ways. He and Aaron are very good with the kids that come to the cons as well.
Stan Lee:One of my all-time favorites. Stan was warm, friendly, and genuinely enjoyed talking to the fans. It really seemed to touch him when people would tell him that Spider-Man was their favorite character or how Reed Richards inspired a pursuit of science from a Boeing Engineer.
Jewel Staite: The camera does NOT do the woman justice. She is absolutely STUNNING in person, and very sweet besides.
Ray Park: It was his first time in Seattle and was full of questions about the city. He was very friendly and seemed to really enjoy it when I ran into him in the corridor on the last day of the con and took a moment to thank him for coming and letting him know that I hoped he'd be able to come again.

The Bad:
Julie Benz: She came in on the same flight as Jamie, they were both exhausted and had no downtime before the con thanks to their plane being delayed several times. While Jamie was able to put on a good face and be warm to the fans, I didn't see Julie smile once through the con. I paid for an autograph from her and she couldn't even be bothered to look up as I said hello. Spent most of her time on the phone and looking bored. The real deal-breaker for me though, was when she signed a picture for the guy who coordinates celeb guests with "thanks for NOT treating me like the superstar I am." Completely class-less.

The Ugly:
Lou Ferrigno: The very definition of prima donna in my opinion. He invited himself to the convention, telling the organizers that he 'just wanted a table and a chair'. Well, when he got picked up, suddenly he had a list of demands, including a young, attractive female handler, and the chair they had at his table wasn't good enough so they had to hunt for a suitable one. He was also not very nice to the fans from 99% of accounts.
