I really look forward to seein this project forwarding.

Re: Iron patriot w.i.p. *UPDATED PROGRESS PICTURES*

i dont know why they wouldnt it probably wouldve been awesome. i personally love the iron patriot dark reign was iffy writing. why dont you do it just to have another awesome suit. also have you worked with cardboard before? i used sharkhead pep to do the helmet but i do NOT have the surgical hands to cut an entire suit out haha

Re: Iron patriot w.i.p. *UPDATED PROGRESS PICTURES*

Sorry we dont work with paper. All is sculpted in clay medium and then moulded and cast in fiberglass and vacform.
But keep focus on your project. Dont stress and take your time, and i am sure it will end nicly :D

Re: Iron patriot w.i.p. *UPDATED PROGRESS PICTURES*

so i got at it again and cutting the face off was a good fight and i cracked some of the faceplate, but im not even done sanding and rondoing yet so im not hurt. i threw some spray paint colour on just to get my vision going

i cut the back portion to get it on and probably gonna hinge and velcro that portion but i havent crossed that bridge yet

i was walking through home depot trying to figure out a a way to slide the face up and down and saw some left and right curved angle hinges
(cant remember what there actually called) but it works just need toline them up better but i screwed them in for now and plan on riveting them later

just an update on helmet process still need more sanding in spots and to remount the hinges nice an evenly. im debating on whether to take a break on the helmet and go on to the rest of the body

Re: IRON PATRIOT w.i.p. *UPDATE 8/14*

i think you may have used too much bondo on your helmet. it's looking a little rough. you may want to work on sanding it down a lot more and trying to gain back some of the detail that was lost. imho a little patience and determination will get you where you want to be with this.

Re: IRON PATRIOT w.i.p. *UPDATE 8/14*

yeah when i put the color on i noticed i put too much bondo on. which spots in particular are you thinking needs it the most?

Re: IRON PATRIOT w.i.p. *UPDATE 8/14*

ummm... well i don't want to discourage you, but it's pretty rough all over. the lumpiness is the first issue. all of the surface should be sanded smooth and shouldn't have that lumpy, playdough texture to it. the face plate is actually almost on point. you should use that as reference to how smooth you want the rest of the helmet to look. start with a really course sandpaper and you'll start to get down to a workable surface in no time. after it's smoothed out you can move to a finer grit sandpaper which will start to get the surface even and smooth like glass. as you're sanding it you'll notice little areas where there are holes or pits in the bondo. you can mix up a small batch of bondo and use a credit card to apply it over the holes which will fill in the holes and still retain a fairly level surface. after it's all level and filled you take some fine sandpaper and use that to get the texture out that was left by the heavier grit sandpaper.

another issue to tackle is the edges of the entire piece. try using a medium grit sandpaper and run it along all of the edges of your piece (around the hole where the face opening is, the outside edges of the helmet, etc) and work those lines until they are straight and even with each other. another tool to use would be an exacto saw which you should be able to find at any hobby store. you can use this to trim the rough areas around the eyes and the more uneven areas around the outside edges of the helmet with more precision than a hobby knife or sandpaper.

hope that helps a little. keep working on it and it'll get there.

ignore the faux/fo hawk look however its spelt i was thinking about doing that hood scoop on the forehead for my patriot scuplt since every illustrator drew the Iron Patriot a little different im going to sculpt my only little take on it.
i want that bull dogish look war machine has with that high cheekbones the extremis iron man has.

but as far as the suit goes im throwing in the towel on it. at least for now ive started toying with a few methods to get my suit going for the emerald city comicon in march. ive been playing with card board and my plastic welder and hand riveter and have a better template and sizing. and im thinking about scaling and printing the pep suit again and using that as a template to cut. pretty much all that nonsense up top was the prototype haha

tell me what you think advice good bad or ugly.

Re: IRON PATRIOT w.i.p. *UPDATE 8/14*

yep and i think there like .20 cents cheaper at lowes i need to figure out a better way of mounting them so the screws and mounts arent jabbing my temples

Re: IRON PATRIOT w.i.p. *UPDATE 9/02*

thanks alot
ive decided to go my own route on the helmet by doing a green goblin/iron patriot mesh. its looking pretty deceng so far ill throw up some progress photos later tonight

Any decent adhesive epoxy would hold the hinges on just fine, but you'd need to be 100% sure they're in the right place before you stick them on. You won't get a second chance. :)

Re: IRON PATRIOT w.i.p. *UPDATE 9/02*

i mean like the mounts themselves with the mechanisms to slide it up and out jab the side of my head haha riveted it in the i thought about using epoxy but i like being able to just drill them out when i want them back. i probably have to make the helmet a tad bigget but thats why allof that is protoype
but what epoxy would i ue if i did want to do that??
