LOST Roman Dagger - FOUND

Forgive the way I'm writing this.. I'm researching it as I'm writing, so it's sort of a diary of my hunt.

From looking at the pictures on the Lost wiki, this appears to be a found item. The detail is quite high for such a simple prop on a TV budget, and the finish appears to be that faux-weathering lacquer that some cheap knives have.

You can see a big picture here: http://lostpedia.wikia.com/wiki/File:606-18.jpg

The site mentions it's a pugio, a Roman sidearm. I did find a site that makes a cheap replica based on the show, but it seems that the show itself is using a cheap replica, so why go second-gen?

Ah-HA!! Found an exact copy of it on an Italian legionnaire websites, but no link: http://www.xii-fulminata.it/equipment.htm (the knife is at the bottom, right-click "View Image" to see it full-sized, this is definitely the one!

Found THIS!! http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0009U5BE6/thecostumersmani

The color's slightly different, but the design is clearly the same.

Aaaannd.. SKADOOSH:

Is that it?!?? I can't tell if the hilt is the same, but the scabbard looks about right.

And here: http://medievalcollectibles.com/p-1818-roman-dagger.aspx

By jove, I think we've got it!!! It's a Denix. Found another version with brass highlights:

http://www.kultofathena.com/product.asp?item=SD4101NQ&name=Denix+Roman+Pugio+Dagger

Sooooo close. The rings are a little different, and the coloring's off.

This one refers only to a nickel finish, no mention of brass:

Although it should be noted that the real one on the show has a brass tip on the scabbard, but no brass on the rest of the scabbard.

None on Ebay that I could see with a quick search, but these things are all over the 'net.

Happy hunting!

Wow, great research. Now to pick one. Which is the closest to the screen-used? Can we tell which one the show actually picked?

BUMP!

My girlfriend's an even bigger LOST geek than I am, and she has set me on the quest to find this dagger for her. I just checked Bud K's website, but they don't seem to have any pugios at all right now.

RPGnerd, can you please share more details, such as who the manufacturer is, and where it can be purchased from RIGHT NOW? :confused

Try Smokey Mountain Knife Works if it's still available. It was on Amazon but http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0009U5BE6/thecostumersmani it appears to not be right now. This was being sold cheap for years though.

Well as they said above it's a It's a Denix and came in a unmarked white box, I think I paid $9.95 for it. I know it was under $10 because I was like "if it's this cheap why not?" It's a 2nd-3rd century "Mainz" type pugio.
( it's this one color style http://media.photobucket.com/image/Roman Pugio/wagnijo/Pugio.jpg )

This is the basic style that I bought before Denix went two-tone

I disliked the finish as it looked really cheap so I gold/bronze leafed it, then chemically aged it to look like an artifact. Denix has improved the old finish as it's now two tone http://www.by-the-sword.com/acatalog/Denix_Roman_Dagger_SD4101NQ.html but the price is way off now at $36.75+!

It's not a bad knife but I'd prefer a thicker blade and the back of the sheath has four cheesy rivet/screws things that I covered up with my aging.

I can't believe the price mark up, It's NOT a quality knife...the sheath is lined with cardboard to pressure fit the blade. All said with a little paint and TLC you can make this into a decent display peice.

Bringing this thread back from the dead. Finally received my replica dagger for Christmas. It's the Denix 2-tone. No rivets or screws visible anywhere and no cardboard in the sheath. The blade needs to be smoothed and polished and the 2-tone finish has to go. But all in all, a very decent dagger that matches the one from the show about 99%. In studying caps from the show, I've noticed some details that are slightly different. Nothing bad though. I'm pleased with mine and will be happier once I figure out how to refinish it. Any suggestions on creating a weathered bronze look that can stand up to handling?
