Flynn's helmet WIP

This is a project I've wanted to take on for a while: Flynn's helmet. I recently picked up a Cooper SK2000 and have been slowly working away at it. I guess there were a couple variations in the SK2000 so I have modified mine to match the one in the movie as close a possible.

The paint turned out awesome, but as I started to mask for the striping little bits would peel away. I'm currently wet sanding everything back down to try a different painting approach, which is a bummer because it turned out perfect the first time. Oh well.

I have read these particular helmets are tough to paint....

Thanks.

I was going to go with the colors of the actual prop which is white with black striping, but I am considering blue rather than black. No glowing on this one.....

Would it be considered recasting if you made a mold of these and sold kits? I know there are always a hand full of them on ebay, but it would be nice to get one ready to go for a tron conversion.

Just curious...

It would be great if someone recast them in something more paintable...

Finally got the front half done:

I thought this would be the last bit of poly before paint

And it was, until i painted it, and then dropped it

Fixed it up, repainted and cleared.

Now I just have to finish up fixing the rear and sides before my blue vinyl arrives...

Update:

After giving some time for the clear to fully harden I've started in with some of the vinyl work. Huge PITA, the thickness of the stripes are far from accurate, but at this point I'm pretty happy with whats going on.

Slowly but surely

I actually used to play hockey in these exact helmets when I was younger. I had 3 or 4 of them lying around in my garage a few years ago before I unloaded them. Anyways great work so far, looking fantastic.

Very nice. Really clean looking. Are you going for an "Idealized" version versus a screen used piece look?
