re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Greetings fellow RPFers! Lucky to be able to visit the site today and find registration open! I am a huge fan of all things found on this board and have long wanted to register but never found new members being accepted. I'm a huge fan of the excellent and creative work so many of you bring here as well! Looking forward to taking part.

re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hello everyone, Wowtar here. I have dreams of taking up prop building, but lack time/space/skill at this moment. I am, however, amazed by the projects on this forum, and will keep a close eye on as many as possible, so that once I get sorted, I can attempt a (basic) project of my own.

Due to the previously mentioned lack of time/space/skill I also hope to join in on some of the great stuff up in JY, and get my hands on some of the amazing stuff you guys have been building. I really hope this'll be a stepping stone, so I look forward to learning!

re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hi all,
Svee here. Always been into props but only recently got into making them. I used to collect replica swords and the like and i have a sword of the daywalker replica from Blade and a legit Gil Hibben "Jackyl" from Buffy/Star Trek (not screen used or anything though). Used to have more than that but times get tough and you have to part with some things you dont want to sometimes ya know :cry
I recently started making a replica Ghostbusters proton pack (which is going well) and it has totally given me the prop building bug. Once i have the pack finished im going to have a crack at making an Audrey 2 from Little shop of horrors.
Im still a total newbie at prop building but its great fun and my regular day job comes in handy too (im an airbrush artist & custom painter).

Anyway, thats me. I look forward to chatting to you all :)

re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hello
Scooter here. I do Renaissance faires and collect movie props, but there are times I'm looking to build pieces for costumes. Sometimes I come here just to look at the wonderful craftsmanship. Still an newbie here.

re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hopefully I don't get lost in the sea of new members! I'm very new to prop building, and eager to give it a try.

I'd like to post my preliminary construction drawings for a Star Trek TOS Ray Generator. I want to see if anyone with a critical eye would give some constructive feedback Would it be more appropriate to start a new thread, or add to the thread linked below?

http://www.therpf.com/showthread.php?t=76047&highlight=ray+generator

Also, I could use some advice on how to insert pictures! Here's a link to an example of the kind of drawings I'm talking about:

If there's a way to insert .pdf documents or a place that can host them, maybe that would be better?

Welcome all to the RPF! :)

You can attach files (including pdf's) to your posts. When you are creating or editing a post, scroll down and click on the "Manage Attachments" button (when editing a post, you have to click the "Go Advanced" button first).

Hi

I'm a halo guy from 405th. I unfortunitely don't have the time for the hobby I once did but I am known for being one of the few Mark 5 suit makers (from the original halo game) and one of the very few hand formed styrene makers (though the helmet is the same from when the suit was originally pepakura)

I still make the old prop here or there.

Otherwise cheers.

re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hey everybody,

Matt here, another new member from the world of the 405th. I am kinda like Moz, where I just don't have near the time that I used to be able towards props, or armor for that matter. I've got a couple of projects in the works, that I can share some pictures of down the road. Glad to be here!!

re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hello everyone:
Yup - another newbie here. But I've been collecting props for several years now. Haven't done any replicas yet but I thought I might to round out some areas in my collection or to complete some damaged props.

Here are some of the items in my collection.....

I play poker so I had to have some chips from the movie "Casino". The photo on top is signed by Sharon Stone, Robert DeNiro, and Joe Pesci.

It took me awhile to collect the military swords from "Gladiator". Clockwise from top left - cavalry sword, infantry sword, Praetorian sword, and arena sword. All have scabbards except for the arena sword. The blades are aluminum not rubber or resin. The poster has seven signatures including Crowe's, Richard Harris (now deceased), and Ridley Scott the director. The only bad thing about it is that it is from the French release of the movie.
img1125l.jpg

On the far left, you can see the poster from "The Rock" along with two props - one of the guidance chips from the VX rockets and the container that held the VX gas balls. The container is steel and quite heavy. It is missing the cryogenic system and an insert (which would have held the gas balls in place) so it is probably one of the background pieces from the storage facility (not stolen and taken to Alcatraz). It's a candidate for a replica (I've only seen one for sale with the cryogenic system). The poster has has four signatures including the principals on the poster.

On the near right, I have a poster signed by seven including Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg from the movie "Saving Private Ryan". This poster is a little different from the others that I have in that it is translucent for a light box at a theater rather than just in a frame. Next to the poster are two stunt guns from the movie - a Colt .45 and a Walther P38. You have to get up close to these guns to even see that they are stunt versions - the craftsmanship is great! Of course these don't fire since they are made of resin and would be used in holsters or when the actor needs to carry a gun in hand. (yes - those are my golf clubs on the right!)
img1123v.jpg

The "Braveheart" poster has Mel's signature and seven others, including Randall Wallace, a descendant of William Wallace. The sword next to the poster is a metal Scottish sword with a wooden handle used during one of the battle scenes (supposedly rare since most of the battle scene swords were rubber). Mel's hero Claymore (the one in the poster) was sold at auction in 2001 for $170,000. Anyone bid on that??? That's a Scottish battle flag next to the sword.
img1124zx.jpg

Anyone remember the 1993 Disney version of the "Three Musketeers" with Mr. Bad Boy himself, Charlie Sheen? That's the life-saving crucifix including the smashed bullet worn by Charlie as he gets shot near the end of the film. I also have a Musketeer sword from "The Man in the Iron Mask" but haven't displayed it yet.
img1133e.jpg

Notice a theme yet? Yes, I like swords. But let's not forget knives!! "The Chronicles of Riddick" is one of my favorite sci-fi films. Those are the hero knives from the scene where Vin Diesel fights off the Necromongers. They are stunt knives since no metal ones were made (can't injure those actors now, can we?). There is another version of these knives that has a spinning accessory for when Diesel does his bad-ass knife spin at the beginning of the scene. The poster is signed by 11 including the director, David Twohy and Dame Judi Dench, otherwise known as "M" from the recent James Bond films.
img1130a.jpg

Another view of the fighting knives with the Necromonger knife used to kill the Lord Marshal at the end of the film. The Necromonger knife is made of hard resin and there is a very thin break near the handle. I think I have this knife screen-matched to the one that is stuck in the Lord Marshal's head and snapped off (hence the break). This knife is very detailed and ornate.
img1129p.jpg

Speaking of James Bond, the poster in this pic is a generic Bond image but it has over 50 signatures of actors and actresses (girls, villains, heroes) from the Bond series, including Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, and Pierce Brosnan. I don't have Daniel Craig's signature because he wasn't Bond yet when I obtained the signatures. Of all my signed posters, this is the only one where I actually got the signatures (I bought the others already signed). Actually, I bought this one with about 22 signatures on it and I got the rest at a Bond convention in England in 2006. The other frames in the pic contain casino chips from "Casino Royale" and chips and a check from "The World is Not Enough".
img1126b.jpg

One of my favorite Bond films is "GoldenEye" which is Pierce Brosnan's first Bond film. During the opening scene of the movie, 007 and 006 infiltrate the Soviet Arkangel Chemical Weapons Facility (which has a very cool bungee jump scene actually done at the Verzasca Dam in Cantone Ticino, Switzerland) to blow it up. The pic shows one of the nerve gas barrels that were all over the place. Surprisingly, these are very difficult to find now probably because it's plastic and many were just thrown out after the scene was done.
img1135z.jpg

One last pic for now. These are two swords from "Pirates of the Caribbean" made by legendary Tony Swatton's Sword and Stone shop. I bought these at auction and was immediately offered more than I bid by two people. I think I'll hang on to these for a bit. There is also one of the gold coins from the treasure room (not one of the Aztec coins, unfortunately - they go for about $3k).

That's it for now. I have a few other things I haven't gotten around to hanging up yet.

Hello everybody,

I am a clothing design and screen printer by trade but have always been interested in sculpture. Poking around here the last few days has given me some great ideas on how to go about tackling some projects as well as given me some ideas for new ones.

First order of business is building a working replica of jabba the hutt's hookah!

looking forward to being a part of the community.

re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hello,

I figured it was time to join up after watching for a number of years. So many cool props are coming out. Plus, I like to see what's being produced in the junkyard. People always thought I was seeing things when I noticed details in film props. I'm glad people here notice the small details in props as well. See you in the chats.

re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

I have tried to join so many times in the past and when I happen to revisit and notice it was open I had to jump right in.

I have been collecting statues and Sideshow stuff for a while.

My favorite pieces are the Illusive Concepts Lifesize Han in Carbonite and my ESB Luke Signed Lightsaber from Master Replicas. Oh, and cant forget my Goonies treasure map prop framed with doubloon. Love movies and props.

re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

My name is James Gallo. My main interests are in Star Wars and Stargate items but I enjoy lots of other sci-fi stuff.

Mainly interested in screen used items, but I do like to read and talk about the replica stuff as well.

Glad to be aboard.

Hiya RPFers!

I figure that I've used the forums multiple times as a costuming resource so I might as well join :)

I've been a huge movie/tv nerd my entire life, as only child tv was my best friend. I can find something in most in genre but am a sci-fi girl at heart.

re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hello RPF, again.

You see, I'm a former member of the RPF, the Dented Helmet, and the Hunter's Lair. I built a Jango Suit, a Predator, a Ringwraith, and several other costumes over the years. The trouble is, as always, balancing work & money between costuming and spending time with the kids.

I'm an artist and web developer and I'm always trying to learn new things like sculpting and toy making. Last year I built two Ghostbusters proton pack for a friend and I and they came out great thanks to the 19 page proton pack plans floating around here.

I'm happy to come back to this place because everyone here is so talented and creative and look forward to getting back into building stuff.

re: ** New Members: Please Introduce Yourselves Here! **

Hello RPF,
I'm another newbee and am just starting to build my Boushh disguise so I can start trooping hopefully by April next year. Ordered my helmet kit from Sandman and am looking forward to getting that part done. This place is great, I enjoy the free sharing of techniques and hope to contribute as well.

Hello Everyone!

I'm new on your forum since 2 weeks and I would like to present myself here. My name is Jason and I'm a french Canadian. Sorry for my english is not perfect. I'm big fan of Indiana Jones and Star Wars, S-F movie and I love the Krull Glaive since childhood. I'm a hatter amateur on the Indiana Jones forums and I make the realy good replica of the Raiders fedora.

Also like many people, I love the Lightsaber weapon and in the summer 2007, I realised the dream to make a duel with the Lightsaber with a friend. It's a very good sensation to see the finish result with a special FX. NOTE: It's not me who made the special effect on this video, it's my friend because I don't know noting in the computer.
