It's all trimmed and I started painting it last night. I got the silver on the accent pieces around the face and not shown... a few of the stripes. Painting with the Psycho Paint from Smooth on is a B!TCH! Its a silicone based paint (think painting with liquid rubber).

Julia loves the fact she can easily turn her head in it. Something she couldn't do with the old one!

I finally finished painting the first headpiece (minus a few touch ups on the back of the piece that I still have left to go). Another head is curing in the mold!

Looking good Bob. How was the painting experience? Did it get any easier as you went along?

It's a nightmare. At least using the Psycho-Paints from Smooth-On. I'm wondering if there are other, easier to use paints out there. Basically, using the Psycho-Paint is akin to painting with rubber cement. You mix a two-part silicone base and add pigment to it and then paint with that before it dries and turns to a ball of rubber. The good thing about it though is once it's on... it's never coming off. It fuses with the headpiece. Course... the bad news... yeah... you mess up and it's NEVER coming off! I think if I had owned an airbrush it'd be easier to use because you can dillute the Pyscho-Paint enough to spray on. I just don't have that option available to me at this time.

Kind of an unrelated question but I'm curious about one thing, has anyone ever thought of doing it cloth instead of casting it?

I did my first Shaak Ti horns in cloth, and while these were very easily and cheaply made and easily worn (like pulling on a winter hat) it doesn't take more than a handful of wearings before they're pretty battered up and stained with makeup. I've finally been forced to retire mine, because they just won't hold up any more!

I have the Fuse FX paints and they look a bit easier to work with than the Psycho Paints(at least that is what they told me at the Compleat Sculptor). http://www.completesculptor.com/ Look under Online Catalog and Pigments. I am hoping they will be easier to use.

Someone needs to figure out how to make the backpack for Rotta to be carried in so I can have one for my costume. I surely do not know the first thing about how to create it. :rolleyes

Talk to Mark. He and his friends were supposedly working on some.

I've been thinking about knocking one out. They are pretty blocky, so they shouldn't be too hard. Quick vac forming and it's good to go.
