Sherlock Holmes (Granada/Brett) props

I enjoyed the new movie for what it was, but for me THE Sherlock Holmes is Jeremy Brett, from the Granada TV series and 4 movies.

I've been researching some of the sets and props from the show, here's a compilation of what I've "deduced" to date:

Original props and set dressings on display in London currently (not my video BTW):

Some original costume pieces were sold off here. Some SW items here too:

And finally for now, the large picture of the Reichenbach falls that hangs above the fireplace is a black and white blow-up of UPPER CASCADE OF THE REICHENBACH (CANTON BERN) by WILLIAM BARTLETT, 1836:

I LOVE that series. I own all the DVDs and my wife and I do a annual marathon of them all. By far Jeremy Brett is THE quintessential Holmes, bar NONE! Too bad he died before finishing all of the stories ;(

thomas;)

It is, yeah. I would have loved to see the remaining handful of stories filmed.

Sad to see Jeremy Brett's health in such decline in some of the later episodes, but I do love them all. The first and second series in particular (Adventures and the first season of Return) are just magnificent at times.

I agree - to me, he most closely matches Doyle's Holmes and Pagets illustrations.

Plenty of paper prop goodness to delve into as well, for instance 'The sign of four':

I know someone that has the original production used calabash pipe and naval treaty document. I'll see if he is willing to send me pictures of them.

Great, thanks.

Well if it's not the naval treaty there are plenty of other memorable documents to choose from; The Legend of the Hound of the Baskervilles, a few different documents from The Sign of Four, The Master Blackmailer.....lots!

I'm interested to find out what it is.:thumbsup

Here's a pic of my Holmes dinner-service plate - it possibly means ziltch to those of you who don't know the series, but to me it's gold-dust:

BUMP for any updates on those props?

Havn't forgotten, but I'm meeting up with him for some long overdue bevvies, so should be able to get pics myself. He has told me that the particular dinnerset was also used in Agatha Christies Poirot many times also. It is used in Poirots apartment scenes. Best of both worlds eh!

Oh really?

Most interesting! I own a dinner plate from that set, but didn't know that.

I look forward to pics!:thumbsup

I made up a Sherlock Holmes card as seen in The Adventure of the Illustrious Client. Had to guesstimate the size but I will add a pic when I get home. I have a few other paper props from this series in the works.

Does anyone have nice quality pictures of banknotes from 1881-1899? I am having a heck of a time finding pictures of these for my Holmes display.

I also loved Jeremy as Holmes. We watch Blue Carbuncle every Christmas.
Say, anyone found a good copy of the stone? I'd love to get one for my wife.

Nice discovery on the dinnerware, may just have to get a place setting or two.
In the video of the Granada display there is a set of matched pistols, anyone recall which episode they are in? I was surprised to see them as I have an identical pistol. It's a replica which was sold by Collectors Armoury. I bought mine back around 1988 or there abouts.

I did a Google search for British Pound Note and found fair copies of a 5 and 10 and this one: a million pound note, just change the numbers

Thanks for the image sawdust. I spent two days searching for good quality photos. Anyways, here is my Sherlock Holmes Card. Made this in Photoshop with Baskerville (not intentional) typeface. I think it matches pretty good.

Hmmm...strange I can't get it to show up. I only see a red X. I am using imageshack....is there another site that would be better?
