Re: Y oh Y oh Y

I need to be cheeky, can anyone help me out by donating a kit part to me. I need another tyrell 6 wheeler blue part no1 (long fin). I'm using it to scratch the tail fins for the Y. I will gladly trade it for any parts from the 6 wheeler that I still have that you may need?

Thanks Guy

Re: Y oh Y oh Y

Would I be anywhere in the ball park if I suggested could it be these parts that are used on the Y tail in sections where the T rod joins????

Bit of a long shot

Im not an Y-Wing specialist but I think those are more truck suspensions or something like that...

Re: Y oh Y oh Y

Hey Guy,
i use these parts for my Y-Wing Project :cool
but i don't know if they have taken this parts for the org. Studio Models :confused

Re: Y oh Y oh Y

Sadly a lot of the casting on the y was pretty bad in general I've never done so much clean up "Ever". These small parts are just beyond use & also the 8 parts that attach to the Trod & nose cone are pretty useless.

Glad to see that You use em as well Loco, & J they are truck parts mate very observant. They do kinda look like the kit parts that came with Y & i'd rather use em even if there wrong rather than dodgy correct parts, if you know what I mean?

Re: Y oh Y oh Y

Those Hanomag parts were used on some X-Wings, so the kit was certainly available for Y detailing. Whether it was actually used, I dunno.

Re: Y oh Y oh Y

Looks like I made a wise choice, the Hanomag arrived today thanks to a super fast ebay seller & they are identical to the Y kit parts, minus a small adjustment to the end. I'd say they are def the right part, well from the Y kit anyway, dont know about the ILM models.

Re: Y oh Y oh Y

The Hanomag parts were/are also on the Tie Bomber.

Yeah and so many more, we can count the Sandcrawler and the TIE Fighter from the ANH era !
But this kit was probably used on almost all models :p (also used on the 32" MF, ROTJ AT-STn Tydirium etc...).

The parts look very close Guy so yeah that's a good choice ! Looks like the original parts had a 90° rod at the base so it can ben done easily !
And the parts will be better than bad castings ;)

Did you finally finished to clean up the kit ?

Re: Y oh Y oh Y

I wish I had mate, every time I think its done I find more messy area's, Its proving a nightmare to be honest, its slowly coming together & I am re working some parts with kits as I've had to sand off detail as it was too scruffy. It wont be accurate but its only a kit not a scratch build, I dont really want to waste too many original kit parts on it as I may decide to try & scratch a Y one day. Update coming soon but for now just general frustration.

Re: Y oh Y oh Y

Is this an old or new Y Wing kit? Can we see pics of what you're up against?

Re: Y oh Y oh Y

Its an old kit Jason, I got it from another member here. My camera is out of action at the mo but I will try & get some pics up asap. Sadly as most stuff has been cleaned up to an extent its hard to tell how bad it was.

Re: Y oh Y oh Y

I feel for ya - cleaning up stuff you just want to BUILD is totally frustrating!!

Re: Y oh Y oh Y

Quick update, did my first what i'd call proper scratch build on these, using 2mm x 1.5 mm strip & .8mm x 2mm strip. I think they turned out ok for a 3rd attempt? They still need cleaning up a bit!

Got some kit parts fitted to the back of the Y head, thanks to info from Flint & others, its not a Jagdtiger but its pretty close (King Tiger) & a lot cheaper, been spending a lot recently & need to calm down. There's also 8Rad in there & a few others.

These grey parts (not sure what kit they're from) have been giving me a real headache I just cant get them looking neat, they've bee re shaped had kit parts added to cover detail & are in danger of loosing the rest of there detail if I clean them any more.
If anyone can offer castings of these I would gladly be up for a chat?

Got the Hanomag parts test fitted & its a fast improvement, at least some parts will be neat!!!!!

Made the front guns last night so she is coming together now, just waiting on a couple of kits to finish the cockpit. Oh and I had to totally rebuild the front end of the cockpit nose, it had been damaged in transit & repaired by its last owner but had sagged since then & was no way usable, Lee gave me some great advice (which I followed ) & she's nearly as good as new. Learning a lot on this build & also my confidence to scratch stuff is up.

Re: Y oh Y oh Y

The struts of the grey parts might be these: pic from the Bandai 1/24 Messerschmitt. No idea though where the box comes from...

Re: Y oh Y oh Y

struts are indeed landing gear from the Bandai 1/24 Messerschmitt Bf 109 E4
Boxes are from Tamiya 1/35 Panzerkampfwagen III Ausf M/N

I once had all the donor parts for that assembly (including the Kettenkrad hook thingie on the end)--sent them to a fella to cast, and his wife threw away the envelope with the parts still in it. :cry

Lots of good info in the old Y-Wing building thread, guys. :)
