Parks Obi-Wan Saber - Weathered

Great weathering job!

I wish Parks did a better job on his emitters, though. Can't stand that set-screw. Still, with that wonderful finishing job, my eye isn't quite so drawn to the set screw, I'm more marvelling at the weathering. :)

Mates --

I have to be honest, I've been caught off guard by the warm comments posted here. Profound thanks to all for the support...

@Darth Detroit, Yep, I have to agree the strip is pretty rotten. I guess I figured in the light of all the other things that are inaccurate, it might just stay that way.. But then on the other hand, maybe not...!?

@Lord Abaddon.. LOL, cheers for making it possible mate!

@SonofJorEl - very interesting perspective. I guess I'm totally the opposite because I always loved this version. Your points on the wrecked look of this saber make for a meaningful ponder, but the more I think of it, the more I figure this is the way it should be.. (my personal opinion naturally)
I served 12 years of active military service in some of the nasty places on this planet and the old AK-47 I had for a time, was as buggered as hell. The irony is that I always preferred that beaten dented firearm to the other options and thats simply because it never failed to work. I cannot claim to be any type of specialist on the Jedi's but since they ended up a Rebel group, I liked the idea that their weapons ended up being similar in fashion to 'real' rebel groups around the world - rugged, battered and uncompromisingly functional. That said, your kind comments on my humble replica are warmly appreciated. Cheers mate!

@incrediPAUL - I cut the emitter short at the base so I could add the bent metal shroud - I used a 0.5mm sheet of aluminium for the shroud and then carefully bent it into shape. Fortunately, because its at the back of the emitter, its very protected from bumps. The whole emitter unit was then sprayed with a flat black undercoat. I then overpainted it with a mixture of Humbrol silver and flat black but before it was completely dry (tacky) I rubbed soft graphite into the tacky surface to create the 'sheen'. When it was completely dry, I worked the edges to expose the natural aluminium finish of the original emitter

@Chingon - Cheers mate. I don't really know the Chronicles photos. As @scarf man said, I modeled this on the MR finish - which I have always admired.

@JediG60racer - I'm a LucasFilm artist and that painting was from a big poster I did. As I've said, I'm not that clued up on the Jedi but I figured that maybe if they DID have a hall somewhere then it stands to reason they might meet in a room similar to Arthur's Round table.
If they did meet in such a room, then I thought that each Jedi might have either a painting or a tapestry behind their chair on which they were depicted along with their weapon of choice. The writing down the side is the font developed by LucasFilm for EP2. and it reads - from top to bottom - "Jedi Obi-Wan Kenobi"
I did another similar poster for Celebration IV showing Luke and his EP4 saber..

To everyone else unmentioned. Cheers a ton for the support! :lol

It just always bothered me that Ben's saber looked soo bad. No other Jedi or Sith had a saber in that poor condition. Obi-Wan was lucky that it could even ignite! Did he use it to pound nails into his hut?!!

As has already been pointed out, the PROP looks bad.

There's NOTHING about how the prop appeared in the MOVIE to warrant the conclusion that the saber was trashed. :)

So envision it as nice as you like, within the boundaries set by the overall production design, which was geared toward a 'used' look. ;)

You did an awesome job weathering the saber.

Jeff tried to sell me on a bulk order of his Obi sabers a few months ago, but I couldnt get past the design flaws. If they had looked like yours I would have paid double!

great work
