Laminating paper print out to cotton cloth material

OK folks form the title you probably can guess which POTC prop I am working on next. A buddy of mine made the full version but I am just making the cut out version (that may show up in the fourth movie).

I am wanting to take the full color paper plotted image and laminate it to 100% cotton muslin as a backing. This will next be glued to bamboo slats to complete the project.

The laminate needs to be able to be rolled up and crack in the areas where the bamboo slats meet but hopefully not detach. I have experimented with various wood varnishes but they chemical compounds in that stuff are too harsh and cause the ink to run on the print out AND also detiorates the paper. Not to mention when varnish dries it cracks like crazy.

Any ideas? Tips? Any of you out there make a similar type prop that used a laminating technique?
