Hello all and welcome to part 2 of my other recent Orky project. This one is of a much greater scale and will probably be posted over the next few days.

Feel free to check out my other post for my Ork Bionik Helmet

Initial concept.. working mechanical model made from cardboard.. Trying to work out dimensions and articulation points. Also did a SolidWorks model to nail down the mechanics of the claw itself

Build consists of an articulated aluminum exoskeleton with Sintra cladding. Lightweight as it'll get with this mode of construction. wanted full articulation for the arm so I used some 'lazy susan' bearings to give me twist in the arm and wrist.

Aluminum was riveted together because I don't have a TIG :)

EVA foam positioned my arm and padded it.

Sintra cladding. Base shapes are roughed out, Bondo-ed, then detailed

Next came detailing... I made casts of a bunch of bolt heads to save weight.

Painting! I layered on the high build primer and used a low pressure high flow spray to splatter strategic surfaces to give it more of a corroded rough metal texture. sanded smooth on high wear or polished surfaces.

Initial Paint

Dark base-coat followed by successive layers of lighter metallics. Airbrush used the the majority of the painting.

Backpack-style harness system for wearing the claw. Quite heavy.. leaves you with a sore arm after an 8 hour con day!

Okay some updates!

I am doing a second arm (mostly to balance myself out!). I am going to finish it down to the elbow. Below that will eventually be a gun arm, but if I run low on time I may do some strap-on plate armor directly on my arm, and carry an axe. This shoulder will have additional protection as it will facilitate turning your leading shoulder into oncoming fire as you aim your gun.

Enjoy! (Comments and critiques welcome as always)

I got it to this point... and realized I didn't like the chain. Too clean and flimsy... Not Orkish at all!
