Dye Sub patterns... not on spandex!

See the title... is there such a thing? Can a purchased dye sub pattern be then given to someone to print on a material other than spandex? A material such as cotton or linen? Or at the very other end of the spectrum, white pleather? I'm obvious a noob when it comes to the actual process so I'm just curious if it can be done, or if it just hasn't been attempted. There are a few superhero undersuits that could stand to be made of a sturdier material than spandex.
