If this goes from film to space it will be in the conversation for best prop ever. A printed version would be a great display piece.

I agree !!

The original robot is made with a lot of 3D printed Aluminium components (http://blog.ptscientists.com/?p=93) ..To me this means that
A) if they wanted to create model kits or miniatures it would be minimal effort as most of the modeling is done
B)...they could make a solid model that the public could print ( highly doubt but could do like http://3d.ford.com/)

Anyway maybe if we all put our heads together we could figure out or put some pressure and make something happen !

No problem , Maybe as we get closer some more people will want to join in ....I figured building up documentation is the best place to start ..It appears that they have done several iterations of the rover prior to the movie
