Great start. I did the 1/48 FM kit this year. I used Tamiya X-19 light grey to try and get that ANH look and color. Lighting of the model for photography makes a difference. I can post a couple pictures if you want.

I'm waiting for my local Hobby Lobby to stock these Bandai TIEs, going to buy a bunch of them with the 40% off coupon :) My local HL already has the TIE interceptor and X-Wing kit in stock, I snagged one of each.

Yeah, post pics!

I wanted a lighter, more grayish tint but still have a hint of blue.

I used Vallejo Grey Pale Blue, with a couple of drops of white and a couple of drops of sky blue.
Its almost the same color as the plastic mold just a shade lighter and a shade more blue.
Cant see it in the pic that well but it does reflect blue in certain light.

My Hobby Lobby has only carried the same Bandai kits tou mentioned - interceptor and X-wing special set.

I wonder if they are obligated to only just carry those kits.

They should be getting other kits via Blufin (importer) each month. I check back every week or so.

Some pics of my FM 1/48 TIE. I'm not a photographer and found getting good lighting and angles very difficult.

Excellent paint job.

Its hard to get the right looks for ANH.

The colors of thr tie fighters bounced from looking nearly white, to light grey, to light grey blue.

Its seems that shots filmed against stark black backgrounds had a tendency to make ties looks whiter, while the scenes against less datk backgrounds made them look more grey.

Great job so far!

Will you be painting the black wing panels?

I just got a Bandai Tie Fighter and will be painting it. I might not paint the black wing panels since the black plastic has a nice shimmer effect like the studio models' Koolshades.

Beautiful job on these!

Will you be painting the bases?

Yeah i will paint the bases.
Im going to finish all the models with the "death star" bases first, Then Im connecting all the death star panels together and painting them all at once.

Saves time rather than setting up the airbrush for each one individually.

Do you have a color picked out for the bases yet?

Yeah the base color will probably match the molded plastic colors.
I also have a good reference image of a large section of the death Star from the Chronicles-Vehicles book which shows pretty much all the death star sections Bandai used for their bases. The image shows the different colors on the paneling for the based as well.
Some are darker grey, some are tan, etc.
