Ghost in the Shell - Geisha Bot Costume

Thank you for the pic - I'm still thinking of ways on how to do the fingers as I will be making thick lycra/spandex gloves and I'm thinking about sewing in those areas and using silicon additions to my own fingers for shaping the hands.

Currently my hair part is being printed, as I decided Worbla was not going to be durable enough and with the heat of the fan there might have been a chance of warping.
So it is currently being rinted in the same resin as the face mask, after I have assembled it I need to paint this whole lot, which is scary but exciting as I want to do the amazing work that Weta did justice....and I am super fussy :D

I was supposed to have a very productive bank holiday but I got distracted with the arrival of my Ghost in the Shell Geisha statue from Weta Workshop.
For those who fancy a closer look I have done (my first ever) review: https://youtu.be/rKveJ26fTKU

But I still got some 'stuff done', I got word from my printer in China that the hair part has been printed.

Also, I managed to get my okobo pimped up :) I mean, with that red hanao they look pretty swanky. I will now coat them in a few layers of resin to make them durable and attach the soles again. I sanded the okobo down before attaching the gold, I wanted to add some more details and lines to tie it in more with the obi, who has lines as well.

And my Okobo are done! I have added at least 10 layers of varnish to make them durable. I have to sew my robo tabi socks now in order to adjust the straps correctly and then stick the soles back on. Also, my 'hair' arrived for the mask which I originally wanted to make from Worbla, but after some concerns that the heat might warp it I decided to get it 3D printed. By doing it this way I can follow the fitting method that was described in the Tested video (hinges and ski cord closures).
A happy accident though was that the top part of the hair (front bunch) wasn't included in the model for some reason, but this allows me to connect the hair and the face part better and hide the connection under a custom shaped hair part made from Worbla.

The way I am going through the build if from the bottom up:
- Okobo shoes (done)
- Long robi tabi socks, which give me the look for the gloves.
- Gloves.
- Bodysuit, with the pink inserts I managed to properly colour match thanks to my geisha statue.
- Mask
- Finally, the kimono as the mask determines how high the collar comes up.

But for now pictures!

I have been busy with lots of other fun things over that last 3 weeks, which resulted in no progress on the costume at all.
But, today I finally got back onto it and I finished my Robo tabi socks, drew the pattern for my gloves and started on the kansashi for my hair piece.
The tabi socks have a thin padded layer sandwiched in the walls, I wanted to create a pristine human-like foot but eliminating details that you would see when you just wear a sock. Things like knuckles and weird shaped toes .... well in my case you would :)

With the gloves I am planning to do the same but use stitching to create the illusion that the hand is made of different components, did a little trial today and it seems to work very well!

Finally the Kanzashi, this is going to be fiddly but fun to make. I am not going to paint the flowers and other elements but cover them in gold leaf as that will give it some depth. The dangly bits - the birabira - I will create from brass strips. All of this will be mounted in the same way traditional kanzashi are created and mounted.

Update time; The gloves too way longer than expected. However, I'm now a pro at sewing gloves :D
My original idea of inserting filler for the shape failed, then my second idea of attaching robotic elements on my glove and then cover it with another glove failed. Finally inserting the robotic shaped elements inside the main glove worked and ensured I retained mobility, also it is less hot and my fingers look less chunky.
I am starting work on the obi, now I have managed to get a second tsuzure obi as the one obi wasn't going to give me the right fabric thickness to retain the shape.
Also, I purchased a Japanese dancing fan as my prop, which I will paint gold and add the same electric lines as on my obi. Next step, my head/neck piece with the pink markings before I will tackle the kimono!
