Tesseract Holder 3D Print Build

Some progress.....I'm actually reprinting some of these parts because the CR-10 absolutely OWNS the monoprice in terms of print quality. I highly recommend this printer to any one in the market for one

Wow! This build is really coming together! I actually started modeling this as well a couple of weeks ago. Can't wait to see your finished product!

Man this has been a learning experience and a nice project to break in these printers. Most of the first half has been printed...just one more part to print and the first half is done.

While I'm sanding and painting I will be printing the other half. I'm also modeling a base for this as well. I'm thinking the colors are brass, gunmetal, and silver.

Looks amazing, what is the cost in materials?

Thanks, I don't as of yet because the first side was a real trial and error especially because Im new to 3D printing, but have quit of bit experience in 3d modeling. But once I begin the second side I can keep track of filament and I already put together a list of additional supplies needed for this project so I should be able to give an overall cost in materials.

Quick update on the Aether. I'm very pleased with how everything came out so far. Handles work beautifully

Update to the design of the Aether: I decided not to use a photo cube for the middle as the Aether would have been massive in size compared to the screen prop. So I modeled the inner part with intention to print in transparent PLA or just print and cast in clear resin with red pigment. I'm leaning more towards casting. Let me know what you guys think.

So here is another update. The Aether is almost complete, I'm reprinting the bottom base because I forgot to adjust some things but all in all I'm pleased with how this came out. Next steps....get this thing painted, I think I will go with a resin cast for the middle section because I have it readily available instead of buying more PLA and get the leds hooked up. While I'm doing this I will be printing the other half of the Tesseract holder

Aether update

So I didn't bother sanding the base parts because I felt it gave the Aether an interesting texture.

So I applied some epoxy sculpt to the sides where the slabs of rock are suppose to be and applied some water to smooth it out, then applied crinkled foil over it to give a rock look.

I let that dry and applied gold spray paint to the other parts. I used Krylon Gold Metallic Foil. Once the slabs were dry I applied matte black paint and weathered it with Tamiya weathering kit.

Next steps are to finish the weathering on the other slab, mold and cast the middle in clear resin and wire up the led strips.
