For Honor Kensei question

I'm in the process of making a Kensei cosplay for an upcoming con, and I'm running in to a dilemma. Anyone have any ideas of how I could attach the sode (shoulder armor)? I watched the tested video about the process of making the For Honor costumes for E3, and from what I can tell it appears to be attached by a small strap to the arm near the forearm armor, but I'm drawing a blank about what to do around the upper area.
