Slave-1 using EVA foam.

Hi, Just thought I would post some pictures of my current build. slave-1. When finished it will be displayed on a Bespin style landing pad. There is still a lot of work to do ut it is getting there.
As always my choice of material is EVA foam (it's what I do). The lading platform will hopefully have some lights built in. The bottom is not holding its shape at the moment but that will be fixed once the base is done.
More of the build can be sen here https://www.facebook.com/pg/FoamtasticCreations/photos/?tab=album&album_id=1377734108959424

WOW! I would never have thought about using EVA Foam to build a model...but I like what you have done so far

Well, I thought I had seen everything,,,until you showed up:D;) Seems that we stick with things we know, and it shows in your WIP. Great forms and shapes...love it already!

Thank you all for the compliments. Yeah I have been working with foam for a few years now. Done R2, BB8, Wall-e, Proton pack and 4ft AT-AT. Very excited to of had my wok in Star Wars Insider and on Star Wars.com and national TV here in Canada.
As for files, I had found some Papercraft files Slave-1 but there were far to many cuts and glue lines so I made my own.

Great foam work, that is really impressive. I love your solution for the canons on the bottom. I'm assuming they can rotate a little bit?

Thank you. Yes they can rotate. I will be keeping them like this so I can remove them and put them somewhere safe during travel.

Update: Started some painting today. I still have the wings to and the landing platform to build.
For the main colour I used Spray primer "grey" then for the other colours I used acrylic paints.

Update: Started working on the wings today. No templates for this part I just did it all freehand because it was tricky to cut pieces and test them, then cut a bit more and test it so on and so on. Again it is all foam apart from using four (two each side) empty cash receipt rolls.

Well Slave-1 is almost finished. Just some weathering to do, and then the canopy. Once that is done I can then start on the landing platform base.
I usd rivets to make the hydraulics on the wings. Next time I am just going to make them using foam as it was very time consuming.

Working on the landing platform. I didn't want to replica a complete Bespin one, but I did use that most in the design I made. I added a string on battery operated Christmas lights to give it a bit of effect. I am also adding some radar tower things and maybe a terminal or something. As well as all that I will be adding a small section of wall with a door at the end of the walkway. I still have to paint it, I just need to decide what colour I want it to be. I will probably go with a grey/blue. And yes, I still need to make the canopy, I am putting that off as much as possible because I really want to make it clear/see through but don't have any means to do that. I will be making one large round center support leg for the main platform and the walkway will just be supported by the wall at the end. I also wanted to make the base a little more sturdy but I didn't want to use more foam tiles to support it so I used low expanding insulation foam. It helps fill in all the gaps, gives it some stability and adds next to nothing to the weight.
