McFarlane Toys Poacher Costume

I decided ( foolishly as always ) to be different and go big with my next costume. This build is for FanExpo17 in Dallas. I started a little late and it will probably come down to the wire but I am making some progress and decided I should share. I'm still the worst at documenting my work but hope you enjoy.

If you are not aware, Poacher is a character from the Chaos line of McFarlane toys. There are two versions, I believe this the second. I initially envisioned this guy massive but because of time and design compromises, I had to scale him down. He will be made primarily of 1 inch foam and L200 My deadline is march 31st. The head and hands will be sculpted separately. I might cast the tusks in a light resin if I have time, if not, I will carve them from XPS. Some of the accessories will be 3d printed as well.

Progress thus far. Please excuse my trash seams. I actually had templates that I made from a maquette but the translation to real life did not work so well so I ended up making templates by scratch. Ignore the predator mask. Using it for sizing.

I should have the arms done tonight and will start working on the legs.

This is cool, I love stuff that's not the same old thing.

And wow, someone should totally do a chunky Predator boss. The Don of the Galaxy. :)

yeah, why are all predators crossfit athletes. We need some diversity!

And thanks. Yeah, I try to be as different as possible.Even if it means no one knows who I am. :) Last year I went as a Cacodemon from Doom.

Slow and steady progress. He is a little boxy right now but that will be remedied with muscle definition and filler. Going to tackle the legs tomorrow.

Hands all sculpted. On to casting. Not a lot of detail was added. They are going to be skinned in latex and wrinkles and such will be added.

Legs done ( well, almost ) see the spray paint for size reference. He is missing his toenails (they are drying ) and I am thinking of adding kneecaps as well.[/h]

This is so awesome!
One of my all-time, top three McFarlane characters.
His first series action figure was insanely cool.
I had even written my own story/comic about his origin.
Cant wait to see this finished.
I applaud you for doing this.

Its been awhile since I have provided any updates on this build. As I stated in the beginning, I was trying to get this done for FanExpo. Unfortunately the cosplay gods were not in my favor and I missed the con. It was ambitious so Im not too down on myself. So, we march forward.

This was like 1 week before the con and I had started skinning him. Overall the fit is good but I did rip off all the skin. Didnt like how it was laying. And I have some other ideas for skin.

Originally, I was going to use a mask ( See above ) my buddy at evanparrafx.com made for me but I was not feeling it. It was almost too detailed. So, I decided to just foam fabricate the head as well. I think its turning out ok. Lots of tweaks to be made but it will work.

Things are moving along now so look for my updates in the next coming weeks.

Wow, that is a lot of progress! Sometimes not meeting a deadline just means you'll be able to do that much better of a job. Looking forward to more.

Thanks! Yeah, I think missing the con actually will work out for the better. I was cutting a lot of corners to get it done in time. Now I can concentrate on the details.

this is coming great! I know how it feels running late. I was going to rebuild my Halo MKVI suit for the same con, but couldn't finish. looking foreword to seeing it next year!

Wow. It has been a long time since I last provided an update. I was busy building a Han Solo In carbonite so this bad boy took a back seat but with Austin Comic Con just 7 days away, I am jamming along. Finally got the tusks roughed out, ready for paint. Ears are being worked on as we speak.

Finally able to take some pics of poacher. Overall I am happy with the build. LOTS I would do differently. I did win best male villain at the Austin comic-con, so thats something. Second year in a row.
