Jack Sparrow Frock coat Fabric- here we go again!

I was thinking about calling this thread "****stirring", so here we go, just when you thought this topic was dead, what is the best fabric for a sparrow frock coat? As a part of my long on going sparrow costume, I'd like to make one and I need a fabric and pattern. Other than that its all good!

Are you looking for the coat fabric from Pirates 1,2,3, and 4? It's long been discontinued, It was L&S Ebony Raffia fabric. They came out with a similar one called Licorice, it too is long gone. Both were sewn with the back side of the fabric facing out.

yeah you won't find those fabric available anymore (looooooooong gone), you might get lucky if someone offers a coat or fabric on ebay or something

Following this thread as I'm in the same boat as I'm wanting to make a Fem Jack Sparrow! Trying to find a great coat fabric alternative is proving so difficult. If it's any help I've been looking up fabrics like wool tweed or woven wool / woven wool mixes and looking for something that seems to most closely represent the colour. It's not perfect but some of the finds don't look too bad Mood Fabrics has quite a big selection. Etsy is also great for finding slightly more unique fabrics - down side is all I've seen come with a pretty hefty price tag :/

As for the pattern, Alyson Tabbitha did an amazing Jack Sparrow costume and she mentions the pattern she used for the coat on there - from memory it was a Simplicity costume pattern 4923
