I neglected to document very well how I made my Bespin DL-44, so hopefully this makes up for it.

Painted it flat black, then I taped it up, painted some silver, and then masked over that with a mystery disk-shaped piece of tape. I just found something that was the right diameter according to this picture (I think it was one of those 50¢ acrylic paint bottles) and traced it, then cut it out carefully with an Xacto. I had planned to just cut the proper shape out of aluminum tape, abd use 2000 grit sandpaper to imitate machine marks, but I used the last of it on a school project. I'll probably fix it when I get around to the hardware store.

Alright, finished the grips. Just some cheap acrylic paint and a gloss coat. It came out a little shinier than last time, but I kind of like it. I've found that after a matte black coat you can buff the raised parts with a shop towel to get a more worn look, like the paint was buffed on the used areas because of use. I also did a brown wash and some light silver dry brushing, I'll add more pictures when I get home.

Weathered pics, also drilled holes. I had to modify the clip to it could still go in and out, one of the holes I had to drill to hold the mount grazed the top right corner so I hacksawed it off. After I took this picture I ended up having to re-drill some of them, the spacers that I printed are two different thicknesses to make up for how the clip section is more elevated than the back part, and the spacers have different mounding holes. Also I hot glued sandpaper to a drill and made a crude mystery disk with aluminum tape. It looks good from a distance, but I'm working on making a better one.

Replaced the mystery disk with a slightly improved one! All parts besides the antenna greeblies and scope lenses are sanded and primed! Sorry for the lack of updates, been busy!

Terrible picture, but basically the little spacer pieces have been screwed in, with some CA glue on the screws and the bottom of the spacers helped it stay. I ended up breaking the weak plastic in one place, but just drilled a new hole and tried again, and it ended up working fine.

Crossbar attached, and painted to match the original scratches. I had to widen the holes, but with some more CA glue and patience it got a pretty good bond.

The instructions for these 3D printed parts said to use M3 machine screws to secure everything, which I used for the scope bracket tops and spacers. They had a screw hole to attach them to the gun and another to attach the bracket to them. I ran out of M3s, and instead of making them go through the knobs (because the real ones are screwed on to a threaded rod) I went to a lot of trouble to make them look more like the screen used one. The center one, unlike in the movie, even had a screw hole in it. I filled it with Bondo, but not very well. I thought it was good enough and kept going because I was really wanting to finish. To make the other two knobs look like they were in the film I cut some dowel and used a silver sharpie to color it. Then they got glued onto the crossbar.

Edit: Forgot a picture and I also painted the knobs to match.

The scope:
Lenses were made like I usually do, with some clear plastic. I use a heat gun to get them soft, with a narrow cup and PVC end cap to form them. I sand the back side and paint them, this time I chose a deep red color, like in the battlefront game. These were trimmed and glued to the inside of the ring end pieces. The rings were painted gold to mimic the brass on the original. The body of the scope was black with gold dry-brushing, then I did a light dusting with gloss because I've seen the vintage scope look shiny in most pictures. The adjustment knob was glued to its holder and then to the scope, I wanted it to rotate, but decided not to bother because it would fall out. This part had some trouble printing, and when I trimmed off the supports the little axel part ended up a little damaged. The whole scope was glued into the bracket, I wish it was a tighter fit, there is a noticeable gap between the top ring and the scope.

Flash hider:
Not much to say, but I woke up the other day to go to school and I was really tired, and I stepped on and broke the original one, lol. I printed a new one, and sanded the cone part. I thought if I sanded the other parts I would loose detail. Weathered with black paint, a little brown, and some darker silver. I drilled a hole and screwed another machine screw (a a beefier one I found). Not super accurate, but its a plastic gun and not even the right variant Mauser, so I'm not too worried.

Glamor shots and extra details!
I only superglued my fingers together 3 times, so an improvement. I ended up using acrylic paint for a lot of the small parts, to save time. I plan to do additional paint work to match the scope weathering and also make the grip screws closer to the original. I also need to add the site greeblie, so I will post an update.

Very nice! I especially like the washing you gave it to achieve the weathered, rusty look. Looks very convincing. I've got two of those cheap airsoft Mausers and I'm working on an idealised ESB version at the moment. I applied the basic color yesterday. I might use your weathering as an inspiration... ;)
I will shoot and post some pics in a few days I think. There's never enough time...
