Any tips for a 2001 a space odyssey costume?

I was thinking off making a replica of the red space suit from 2001 a space odyssey. I have the body down but the helmet has me stumped. The glass visor is a particular sticking point. Any tips for making the visor or the helmet in general would be greatly appreciated.

Since it's bubbled out you will probably have to vacform it.
