DL-44 Blaster build using synthetic parts

Using all synthetic parts from shapeways I was going to try and re-build the "wired" TFA blaster on an HFC m712 Mauser. But after many redesigns I have decided to build the screen used version instead. My goal is to get it as screen accurate as possible while only using pictures of the actual prop to guide me. I've already designed the parts needed and place the order today.

The desire for the "perfect" build keeps me going back to the drawing board and delaying my progress. I do believe my heat sink grille is on point though.

It's a trial and error process but slowly moving forward. Just having trouble with the flash hider & bullbarrel design as I've changed my model build from the "wired" blaster to the one below. You can drive yourself mad with all the different details in this one blaster alone. From the film used prop, to the "wired" build to even the one on display at the Disney parks.

Besides the actual film replica is a better and more desirable way to go (that and I already have the HFC m712).

In the mean time though I've designed grips for my MGC Mauser. I have one on hand but it's got the "9" embedded in the grips. This is what I've come up with and they work really well. I've tightened the grip screw circle on the new design (not pictured) so its a better fit. These parts are probably useless for most people as the MGC is so very expensive and even harder to find. But at least now what ever dl-44 I decide to build will have "proper" looking grips.

Here is what I have so far. This is my old FH. With the new design the holes have been rotated on the flash hider and I reduce the size of the hole where the set screw would go. Plus a couple other minor mods that I'm still working on.

Until my new parts arrive I thought I would share another build using synthetic parts on a denix Mauser. This one is Han's HOTH blaster from EMPIRE. The picture below is one of many I used when designing my STL files. The flash hider design with the help from other threads found here on RPF is pretty solid I believe.

With the denix I stripped off the logo and sanded down all the appropriate parts and eventually filled in the holes to bring it closer to represent the MGC that was used while filming.

I thought I had some pictures with the holes all puddled up but My bad. Guess I didn't take any but here is one from a BESPIN build I finished a while ago. You can see some of the holes that have been filled in and eventually sanded down so the denix has a more smooth finish.

So this is after the holes have been filled and the denix fully sanded down. The flash hider is pretty much finished and like the original prop (from my understanding) the lines and been drawn on.

TFA parts are in the mail and should arrive tomorrow but I'm currently sitting on the runway in LA on my way to Orlando! In the mean time here is a naked HERO blaster build. I'll finish this as soon as I get TFA blaster completed. But for now here is a naked HERO

Here is an updated pic of my new TFA build with all the updated parts. I'm very happy with the progress and have just a couple more mods before I should be good to go.

Looking good. I'm curious about those metallic 3D prints. Have you tried polishing them to see how the surface finish looks?

U can actually order them polished. They come out very smooth and without any noticeable print lines. Some machined parts I've received have had more lines than the polished Metallic.

I usually use a coat of primer but you don't always need to. Then add a coat of silver then top it off with black. A light weathering off of the black and the silver shines through.

Other than the weaver & FH on this denix ROTJ build all the parts are synthetic.

Again while waiting for my TFA parts to arrive here is a finished m19 scope build I just completed for Han's Bespin blaster.

It's getting close to being finished. The parts are almost completed. Just a couple more quick mods and it's [emoji817]. It's taken me a while to get here but I'm extreme happy with the designs and the progress.

I've recently updated my m19 scope design. So it can be constructed with as much metal as possible and extremely detailed as well.
