I think there should be a disclaimer in the second video you posted about intertextuality where it states that it isn't necessarily a good thing. It really depends on usage and context and many of the instances that video uses were very poor examples. There's proper use and then there's callbacks for cheap emotional ploy. Seeing a drawing of the Ark on a wall and a small snippet of the Ark's motif in Last Crusade is a good use. Seeing the Falcon, and then C3PO, and then the training remote and all the other gimmicks flashed on the screen in Force Awakens was not.

There's a stark difference I feel the guy behind the video essay missed on and it's as stark as eating a meal that has a rich depth of flavor, with hints that recalls memories of another enjoyable meal the person eating has, and rummaging through ones feces looking for what they ate the day before.
