Capt. Marvel "Shazam" costume

I am wanting to have/make a Captain Marvel costume. I need to decide what kind of cloth would be best. I want something that will maintain it's color and have a little stretch to it. I don't plan to tailor the outfit to be skin tight, but the fabric needs to give when I stretch or move as naturally as possible. Also, if anyone has had experience making the arm bands or the sash and cape, any pointers or tips, suggestions are greatly appreciated. The design will be a more traditional one, but with a full, button on bib on the front.

Ideally, I would like to find a cardinal red jumpsuit/flightsuit and add a matching swatch of fabric to to attach to the chest and abdomen of the costume, probably with snaps.
