Another MPC Millennium Falcon (V2)

Hi all,

Well with all these MPC Falcons all coming back in fashion,....I thought I'd show you a project I had been working on

The MPC Falcon is a cracker kit,....just a few big mistakes that has messed up the shape,...my V1 had a lot of modification done to it, lowering the sidewalls, new cockpit walkway & cone, new docking cones & hatches,....loadsa new greeblies,......BUT the main problem with the kit was untouched,...the overall shape & curvature of the hull

I did have a lot of fun though,....I got over my fear of painting & almost finished the bird,...(a RPF member bought her,...thanks again)

But I had another kit gathering dust,...so I thought I'd have a go at fattening her up

First things first,....thankyou to Joshua Maruska, who has made great plans & dimensions of the 5 footer available to all,.....his drawings gave me the confidence to go in this direction

So.....using the same way I am doing my Ralph McQuarriie V2 of the Falcon,....I'm using the 'Burger & Bun' technique for this project......the 'Burger' will be made of Foamalux & the 'Bun' will be the original kit,.....this is the way I've modded my Big Hasbro Hero & the FineMolds v2

The Burger from my RMQ v2:

....the MPC Burger,....replacing the mandibles of the kit:

Some cuts to adjust the curvature on the kit hulls

Gluing a circular platform to keep the curvature even to the hull

Adding styrene mandible top & bottoms to the Burger's mandibles:

This is going to be good. Your V1 thread is one of my favorite threads on here.

I'm collecting kits for bashing one together myself and I'd love to know what kits you use (especially for the rear deck). I'm wanting to do the hull correction too but it' is a bit daunting.

Thanks guys......yes the hull correction is a bit daunting,.....but it has turned out a bit better than I thought it would

The next bit I had to alter was the cockpit tube,....it is a shade too long,....on my V1, I increased the diameter of the tube, because I thought that was the way to correct it,....but again Maruska's drawings show that MPC were pretty much correct,....just a bit too long

So the tube was reduced in length by the size of that mark on the tube.....I decided to try & hide the cut & try to preserve the moulded details of the kit

Looking good!
Still, I think you need to cut the jaws and then later re-attach them. Those are overscaled and too high. Saves you a lot of trouble later in the building-process.

Cool Marko,....you've been there...recently...

I'm just worried about wrecking the stability,....but I'll find a way!!

Thanks very much Jake & SMA,.....well I decided to cut off the jaw as Marko pointed out,...taking care to maintain stability

Here's some images showing the breakdown of the 'burger & bun'

So a couple more things to do to sort the general shape out, then I'll start adding greeblies

Wait - wait - wait - is that a real PG Bandai or a copy? If it is the latter, thumbs up. If it's the first: Why not building the Bandai in the first place?

The challenge. Plain and simple. The Bandai has done most of the hard work for you which, in this case I would also prefer...LOL! There are models you want to have fun and then there are ones you want to kill yourself with a butter knife. Im waiting on a Randy Cooper Sandcrawler so Im preparing that butter knife as we speak.... :)

How did you manage that? Mold the whole Bandai PG rear quarter deck?

It’s probably castings off the PG ! :p

Yep,....a casting of the rear deck,....gonna take my time......cast the parts I need.....I'm not building the PG for a while,.....so casting bits will mean my MPC Falcons won't go in the skip
