Dreamworks Trollhunters Foam Sword Build

Hello ladies and gentlemen,

This is my first post so figured I'd make it a build thread.

Over the holiday break my son discovered the new Netflix show Trollhunters. With a little research I found out that dreamworks released templates for the armor and sword!!

Obviously my son was excited to get his own Trollhunters sword!!! This brings me here.

I currently have the foam cut, but do to time constraints I haven't assembled yet. My plans are to add support in the middle with a plastic pipe, shape it(add detail pieces)and paint. Keep in mind, this is for my child to play with so I'm not going for 100% accuracy. I will keep updates as they come along. Always open to your advice.

Cool project.

This is the show that Anton Yelchin did as one of his last projects before he died, right?

Its cool of Dreamworks to put out the pattern like that.

I finally got a chance to work on this.

First thing was to add support inside with 3/4" pvc pipe. This was done by cutting out the middle section of the middle foam piece.

Next I used my dremel with a sanding bit to take out enough material to fit flush over the pvc. As you can see in the photo, I rigged my shop vac to suck the debris while using the dremel. Not in photos are my respirator and safety glasses, do not breathe this stuff in.

Finally I glued it all together with contact cement.

Next up is cleaning/defining the edges, details throughout and paint.

Any reference photos from anyone that has watched the show would be greatly appreciated!!

this looks really great. I'm going to attempt to make the sword as well, although I have to scale it since I'm a bit taller than the intended audience of that template lol
