Rogue One Blue Squadron

I'd have to look at ANH Red leader again to be sure, but I'm pretty sure they are different.

Cool thing about the R1 UVG is that it also doubles as a Rogue 1 Incredible Cross-Sections book too. It has cross sections for:
Krennic's Shuttle
Imperial Trasport
U-Wing
Imperial Tank
TIE Striker

All of those ALSO have a 2page pictural spread. There are also 2 page spreads, but no cross-sections for the Rogue1 Red leader X-Wing, TIE fighter, Y-Wing, new Mon Cal Cruiser, and Star Destroyer. Pretty nice reference pictures. ;)

here's some a mixture of X-wings, from red and blue squadrons. Looks like there's just a Red Leader, and Red 2, duplicated around, and possibly blue squadron is the same two ships with the colors swapped?

Do you use the decals or paint the wing markings? I'm just getting into modelling. I don't know how difficult it would be to mask the wing markings.

Including blue leader markings in the R1 model kit would have made much more sense. Blue leader is much more prominent in the film and it would further differentiate the kit from the previous X wing.

If that's from the movie, then it looks like NONE of the Red Squadron X-wings match the original film paint jobs. Red Two didn't have a broken fuselage stripe. Red Leader is missing the blast mark on the upper forward fuselage, the fuselage stripe ran all the way to the nose cone, and it didn't have red bands on the forward end of the engine cowl. I'm guessing the other Red Squadron machine (lower left corner) is Red Three, but it's really hard to make out any details due to the angle.

I've mentioned this elsewhere, but from other screenshots it appears they also changed the interior of the engine cowls in Rogue One. Instead of using the Saturn V booster part, they redesigned it to look more like the cowls on the TFA X-wings.

yep, it's from the movie. Considering the lengths they went to in so many other areas, it's weird that they would have made up the markings, when they obviously have every conceivable piece of reference, and since they're actually supposed to be the same ships that show up in ANH. I'm wondering then if maybe they just made a pair with an amalgam of markings, so that from various angles in various shots it wouldn't be as obvious that it was the same ships repeated, or strictly identifiable as Red 1 or 2... I dunno.

while we're about it, what about the black and white "partisan" x-wing?

I wasn't really a huge fan of them, though the crashed one did look pretty cool. Kind of hard to see much detail on those in the movie and once again there isn't much online yet. Seeing some better images would be cool.

interested to see what cut scenes lead up to the crashed one. maybe connected to the shots of xwing pilots being escorted through Jedha? Anyway, I kind of liked the markings, made me think of dazzle camo on ww1 battleships.

Its a little bit fiddly, but definafetly a better look finished, plus you'll get to expand your modelling skills ;)

Depending on number of call sign stripes (rogue 4, blue 6, etc) I would say it can actually lean toward huge pain in the ass territory... but always totally worth it!

Also, it gets easier every time, so that helps.

Possibly Red 1 didn't get the blast mark on the forward fuselage until the last battle of RO.

Yes, battle damage from Scarif could account for the discrepancies on all the ships. And it would have been a cool easter egg to see Red 1 get blasted and come out with that scorch mark.

Great new pic! Love the Ghost. It also shows the right side of Blue Leader which is actually different than Red Leader. The book and Model kit show only a very small break on the right side fuselage stripe of Red Leader while B1 seems to have a larger break in the same spot. Everything else SEEMS to be the same. Also, here is another wrinkle in my theory....the Blue Squadron X in the upper right hand corner of the pic. It seems to have larger breaks in the fuselage stripe on both sides, similar to how the B1 X-wing has on the right side. R/B 1 & 2 models don't seem to have that....unless I'm wrong about B1 being a color swapped R1, but their wing markings are still identical. B1 may have larger fuselage stripe breaks on both sides while R1 has the large break on the left front and a small one on the right side. I'll post a picture of R1 from the UVG later to show. Or there is a third color variant from the animators. I seriously doubt the intended that picture to be scrutinized the way we are, :p

Heres some low res pics mostly pilots .......hopefully some official images coming soon

Those pulled off a trailer? Did anyone get a look at the colors of Blue Leader's R2 unit? If it's going to be awhile until we get good pictures of the exterior ship, I can at least start my kit by painting the pilot and R2 unit.

On a side note, seeing all those pilots reminds me of one of the things I don't like about about Star Wars merchandising: the use of Luke's helmet logo as the overall symbol for the rebellion. The rebels are supposed to represent diversity and individuality vs. the Empire's strict uniformity. I never liked the idea of a single "team logo" for the rebels. I prefer the idea that the pilots' helmet logos represent their home planets or squadrons -- basically heroes from all over the galaxy coming together in a common cause -- or that they're just remnants of group associations that no longer have much relevance. In other words, Luke's helmet had that logo just because it happened to be on the helmet that was available to him when he got assigned his X-wing.

I was told by Mike Salzo earlier this year at JerseyFest that his V3.1 x-wing was used for the scans to make the digital x-wing for RO.

Hmm, looks like the same model might have been the basis for the Full Scale as well?

compare this distinctive curve, which is a straight line on virtually all other models.

It appears the digital model has this curve too. You can somewhat see it here:
