Star Wars 1/72 figures

So I have been on a kick painting the 1/72 figures to kick start some diorama ideas.
Plus I want to push myself to get better at painting such small figures.
It's hard to work so small and still get nice shading/highlighting and details

I picked up the JPG 1/72 tatooine diorama and am planning on doing at the very least a "flat" of the sandcrawler to go behind it. I may one day build the whole thing, but for now at the very least it will be a flat similar to how model railroaders have just one side of a buiding against the backdrops. At any rate, here are the figures. The Jawas and C3-PO are micromachines. The R2 is Fine Molds, the R5 is Bandai and the rest are from the JPG set. It's amazing the world of difference in quality between the Bandai droid (molded in details) and Fine Molds (no actual detail, all flat surfaces with the stickers giving the panel lines).
Getting all the markings on the R1 series droid. The thin lines were hard to get straight. They don't look as sloppy in person compared to zooming in

Next up is the Bounty Hunters. Someday Hopefully I can find the others in 1/72, or at least close to it( i.e. micromahcine scale)

I'd love to do a little diorama of the bridge scene
So Fine Molds Boba Fett and Bandai Darth Vader and Micromachine Bossk

and some rebels/resistance

Although the light was not great and the shadows make Leia eyebrows look like Eugene Levy. I might have to define the eyelids more and make the eyebrows thinner
It's the two Bandai pilots, and the Fine Molds one. The one holding the helmet. He reminded me of Red Leader so I painted him to hopefully resemble him

And some odds and end Imperials

Oh, and a much kinder group shot where the lighting shows off the colors better and are more representative of what you see in person

thanks, I do have a hangar one in mind, but that will be Echo base on Hoth, except in 1/144. I've been collecting some F-Toy Snowspeeders and will be getting the Bandai 1/144 X-wings. I have the Fine Molds 1/144 Falcon, but might go for the Bandai instead. For the figures, they are all the ones from the old MPC Battle of Hoth/Rebel base kits. THe figures there are all 1/144

Still it is tempting to maybe do a Yavin base one in 1/72 with a Y and an X wing

Very cool thread. I've been working on my Bandai droids and pilots this week too, as it has been cold and rainy here all week. Couldn't do anything with the vehicles I'm in the middle of. This will be the last round of models I do with spray cans, def switching to airbrush.

Your figures look great, very good job! I really wish Bandai would put out some packs of 1/72 figures to go with the models. I would love like a pack of 10 stormtroopers and 10 rebels, etc. Would be so fun to have tiny dioramas below the ships. I actually bought some of the imperial assault game miniatures to paint, but they are way bigger than 1/72, of course.

Yeah it would be awesome if someone put out some 1/72 figure packs

The Imperial Assault minis are pretty close to 1/48, but they are some really good sculpts. They would look good with the few 1/48 offerings for Bandai and Fine Molds or even the Hasbro Rebels Millennium Falcon

Oh, p.s. I have a tip about painting these tiny figures that I meant to share. It really helped me out a lot! First, I did that primer technique where you prime in gray then spray white from above to create highlights to paint over. Then, before painting the colors, I did a thin, dark wash. This accented all the tiny details so I could see them better when painting. It also helped to shade the recesses. In some areas it helped so much it almost felt like coloring in the lines in a coloring book. I also had to use a magnifying glass- eyes not so good anymore.

Looks great.

I haven't tried the zenith highlighting yet. I really should

The bottle cap painting base is a good one

I'd love to see more of what people are doing. It always helps with inspiration

Feel free to post any 1/72 ish figure stuff here

I touched up Leia to fix the eyebrows and get more definition in the eyes and got Luke mostly finished for now
sorry for the crappy pics, I just couldn't get the right focus

Also did a mock up of a 1/72 scale Sandcrawler.

It sure is big. A little over 21"

I use for my dios a wild mix of the Finemolds figures, the AMT cantina, Petars pilots (some only for their heads on other bodies), a lot of aircraft maintenance crew (some modified), scratchbuild, .....
awesome dioramas and cool figure mods!

Where did that C-3PO come from? is that a micromachine one, or is that the rare bonus figure for the Fine Molds X-wing?

Are you familiar with Retrokit? They do a 5 pack of pilots https://retrokitonline.net/product/rebel-pilots-relaxed-poses/

I am, I have the snowspeeder and cloud car and probe driod, but its been a while since I've looked at the site. I did not know they had that set. That is a must have! thanks! Hopefully they will do some more sets
