These were revealed at SDCC last weekend, and I would love to try making them. I have experience doing crystal clear resin casting, but after much research, Im not entire sure if these are not 3D printed instead. Ive traced out the circuit design for the engraved lines on the outside. But the image inside is what's causing me pause.

At first I thought it looked like a 3D laser engraving inside the "lens", but it doesnt have that pointilized bright white look that you get with that method. Then i saw this photo.

You can see the edge of an open cavity, and you can see the thickness of that cavity in this shape. It's the open edge of the shape that forms inside of the Sabertooth Tiger mouth and tooth. It's a bit hard to describe, but hopefully you can see it yourself. The shape stands out because we are seeing the edge thickness in the open cavity inside, which makes it appear different than the rest of the area, and the light hit it just right in this shot.

So this leads me to thinking the designs inside are made by have a sculpted inner cavity in the different animal shapes. But if these are cast from resin, the only way to do that is by making the 2 halves separately. Anyone else think these are somehow 3D printed to this crystal clarify, completely smooth and in color? If really like to find a way to do this in resin.

It probably is best to go with the easiest approach, the 2-part coin. The other idea I thought of, which probably isn't correct, is that the animal heads are separate pieces cast from a resin with a slightly different opacity; and then they are entombed in the resin of the coin. This would mean they're not cavities.

EDIT: It just occurred to me that if they are hollow, they're called cameo intaglio. It's when an image is hollowed into a translucent stone.

The lighting and white balance was changed so you could see the backlit image more, the first photos are how they actually appear.

So I managed to make a convex shape out of wood to have laser engraved for the circuit designs. I then molded and cast that and upscaled the trex imprint from the small toy coin using Hydrospan casting rubber. Then molded that, got a negative, used that to imprint the back half of the clear cast lens shape, and got the following!

Maybe if there is more interest. This one took a lot of work to finish, so i'm not sure. Still working out the trex image inside.

Amazing work! I don't know how I missed this. You really should start an interest thread if you're contemplating making more of these. I think there would be interest. The new trailer just came out too.
