Making a costume pattern from scratch (Star Trek)

I just posted this video to youtube. I'm making a bunch of costumes for the Star Trek Las Vegas convention, all original patterns. I'll be documenting it so you can see how I make patterns (several people asked after the Tested videos I did). This is just the first video and definitely the simplest of all the costumes I'm making. Each one will get progressively more complex and I hope to have 4 costumes done by the convention (early August) for my wife, my daughter, me and my friend George.

I did something similar when I made my nieces X-Wing Pilot outfit accept I just traced around a pair of her sweats.
For curves I use a French Curve for nice smooth lines.
