Help! Scale Mail scales need a movie.

Greetings programs,

At work we were going to throw out hundreds if not thousands of metal finish samples. See pic. They are just over an inch in diameter. I have always wanted to do a scale mail project. A couple of questions;

1. What movies feature scale mail? Do any have multi color? All I can think of is Legend.
2. How many do I need? I have hundreds of pieces but there are 10 finishes. Most are brass underneath so I could strip off the coating on some.

SNAG THEM ALL BUD!! worry about the costume later. that's a titanic boat load of FREE metal. how often do you guys throw stuff out like this??

Thanks guys. Here is the G2. I have 24 boxes with 10 sets of 10 in each box. Each set of 10 contains;

2 painted black over brass
1 painted white over brass
1 polished gold/brass
1 semi-polished gold/brass
4 various brushed nickel/bronze...which is a finish over brass (I think)

SO for the Legend armor; I have 2 gold/brass in each set, ten sets in a box and 24 boxes...480

Since the scales overlap, I will use 1 square inch as the area of each scale. SO I have 480 square inches of area. 480/12=4 SO 4 square feet? a 2 foot by 2 foot patch? Is my math right? I need more than 480.

Yes, for your torso, you need double that, possibly 3 times that. Since they are round, you have less than a square inch each,(.7854") and they need to overlap, so more like a 1/3 of square inch each. A scale armour I made many years ago with scales 1.5" by 2" required 500 scales.
Just a piece of info: In the real world of Armour, there is no such thing as "scale mail". This was a term invented, along with plate mail by Samual Myrick in the early 19th century. There is only mail, or scale, or plate defense. The early D&D crowd adopted these erroneous terms and they have hung with the nerd crowd ever since.

strip all the painted ones and get a new count :confused plus the size of that predrilled hole is gonna effect this....:(

OK.
Looks like I have;
300 shiny brass
450 dull brass which could be polished.
750 random silver/nickel/bronze.

Each disk is 3cm diameter. So about 7 sq cm without overlap. Estimating 5 sq cm with overlap; 5cm x 1500 = 7500.
So about 8 sq ft?

I geuss you need to find the length from shoulder to waist? I cant tell if it goes below the waist to mid thigh? then you can subtract length and add to width, measure yourself for sizing. then you would know if you have enough to wrap around yourself and have enough for sleeves. :popcorn

Slow progress. Dull scales on the bottom working up to shiny brass on the shoulders.
