Barbarella

I was surprised to find very few threads about Barbarella, especially since it's available on Netflix now. The film has gratuitous costume changes and awesome weapons.

I've been researching a few of her costumes and thought I'd start a thread with my findings for posterity.

Here's a great blog I found: http://barbarella1968.blogspot.com/
Also a big collection of photos: http://www.magnumphotos.com/Catalogue/David-Hurn/1967/ITALY-Film-Barbarella-1967-NN110146.html

TC092867: The costumes were designed by fashion designer Paco Rabanne. The discs are one of his trade mark designs. You can find his chainmail handbags from time to time on eBay.

I
posted to the facebook group, https://www.facebook.com/groups/therpf/ , to appeal for help identifying the parts of Barbarella's armored haltertop with her white bodysuit.
By morning someone had identified it as a Butcher's Apron, which are made of aluminum discs. Often from France, stamped with "LAMEX FRANCE". http://www.cottedemailles.fr/nos-matieres-en.php German word for them is Schnittschutzschürtze (the umlaut is important when searching on eBay for them).

I've been working on a screen accurate display and it has taken 3 years to get enough discs to build this costume. Here are a few pics but far from done. IMG_0043.jpgIMG_0044.jpgIMG_0387-2.jpg

Her boots have all the styling of Pierre Cardin. Considering that Paco Rabanne and Pierre Cardin were friends it would make sense that these are custom Pierre Cardin boots. These are the boots I found and although the color and the hight is wrong, the seams look right. I thought I could pull patterns of them.

Oh, nice on ID'ing the discs! I'm still probably building mine out of the butcher's apron, but yours is MUCH shinier! Thanks for the extra pics!!!
