FINISHED - Hasbro Hero X Wing Conversion 30" 1:18 Scale

Re: X Wing - Hasbro Hero - With Open Wings & Mods

Yes! You've made a huge dent in the project which is pretty challenging (as so many have found out!) If it is wearing & no longer being fun, take a break. Perhap even schedule when you will re-open the box back for another go at it.

Re: X Wing - Hasbro Hero - With Open Wings & Mods

Hey Yaris... Good to see you back at it !

I'm coming along on mine, trying to finish up the cockpit now.

Don't give up ! A sweet paint job will do wonders for this bird.

Hey pcoz, I've seen you're progress and yours is looking amazing! If I was to do this again, I'd follow your details. I haven't put as much work into it that you have, but I suspect I should have:rolleyes...but I'm happy with how it's turning out and I'm sure it will be good enough for me and yes I agree with you, a good paint job will work wonders.

Thanks for the comments RR, I just have to keep going, I am enjoying it, but frustrated with the mistakes I've made and how I should have approached this from the beginning, but it's all good and I'm sure one painted it will be fine..for me:D....I did take a beak from it, but I know I'll never finish if I don't keep on it, so I'll keep chipping away at it.;)

Re: X Wing - Hasbro Hero - With Open Wings & Mods

Usually, you get perfection via repetition - or you just more on and "be happy".

I suspect option 2 is the more sane of the two. ;^P

Re: X Wing - Hasbro Hero - With Open Wings & Mods

You're right rbeach84...... You do know the definition of an expert, right ? It's one who has made every conceivable mistake in a narrow field. So there you have it, keep making mistakes Yaris and each project will get better !

Along those lines, you'd think I'd be an expert by now, but alas, I am not. I blew up one of my LED adjustable flashers last night. I thought it was rated at 12V and it was 9V. OOPS !

Re: X Wing - Hasbro Hero - With Open Wings & Mods

Cut the templates for the black acrylic panels. I'm not doing an internal cockpit as I'm not a fan of seeing it in flight mode, so I'm going with the dark glass look;) Will cut the black acrylic tomorrow at work and take some photos

Re: X Wing - Hasbro Hero - With Open Wings & Mods

There is no point having an X Wing without a Tie Fighter chasing it;)

I found scale (1/18) Tie Fighters were $200!!

So I found this at the local toy store for $20

I like the pod, good enough for me and my build. The wings are not to scale and rubbish plastic, so I will try to make new wings.

Wish me luck:D

Re: Yaris X Wing - Hasbro Hero- Open Wings & Mods

You could always do a forced perspective display... using say, a Revell TIE kit (or two.)

Re: Yaris X Wing - Hasbro Hero- Open Wings & Mods

put some black sav onto 1mm polycarb for the cockpit glass and trimmed/glued the cones onto the rear engines.

Re: Yaris X Wing - Hasbro Hero- Open Wings & Mods

I'm not really going for true accuracy, so I can add what ever I like;).....thought the back lower parts needed some detail so I added some things. Primed her up to see if it looked any good and I like it, so that will do for now.

Re: Yaris X Wing - Hasbro Hero- Open Wings & Mods

Opened the torpedo tubes up, started casting the cannons and made a template for the rear engine internal which I'll laser cut and also filled some of the original wing ends

Re: Yaris X Wing - Hasbro Hero- Open Wings & Mods

Laser cut the internals and will paint them and probably put something behind them to cover the resin plug. I'm not lighting this beast, so don't need to worry about access.

Thx for the input, I have thought about it, but I'm not doing a view able cockpit, so no real point having just the rear engines lit....plus if I go down that road, I'll never get this baby finished;)

Re: Yaris X Wing - Hasbro Hero- Open Wings & Mods

Haha, I was trying to goad you into it! Carry on, my friend, amazing job!

Re: Yaris X Wing - Hasbro Hero- Open Wings & Mods

Finished molding a cannon and cast one. Came out pretty good, so I'll cast the rest soon.

Re: Yaris X Wing - Hasbro Hero- Open Wings & Mods

Cast another cannon, but the mold seal was too tight and squished it. Got some greeblies together for the front engine side panels, not super accurate, but they'll look better once primed.
